I can't speak of any special expertise in the area but I have some good friends that have been active in Guardian ad Litem (staff) and now run a Catholic adoption agency for abused and neglected children. They are far from prudish as far as adults are concerned, but have convinced me that all children, even teenage boys, are scarred by sexual activities with adults. Also, adults that seek relationships with teenagers, esp those like LaFave, which, as noted, are certainly attractive enough to attract adult attention, often do so because they need relationships they can express false dominance in and manipulate.
This case drew a lot of discussion about tthat very perception - that the boys would be fine. They felt strongly otherwise, speaking generally (keeping confidentiality) of analagous situations in which the boys were strongly effected, esp. as to their ability hold mature adult relationships. Children that are violated sexually by adults, and that would include and a 24 and a 14 year old, are altered. I have always had some sympathy for those facing criminal charges for consensual relationships with very little spread in age , i.e. 18/15, as that is not a significant difference in maturity in most cases.
