In most of Florida the sales tax is 6%. Certain counties have voter-approved initiatives that increase that amount slightly. In Orange County (Orlando/Disney) we voted for a 1/2% tax to improve schools so the total sales tax is 6.5%. Nearby Seminole County (Sanford/Altamonte Springs area) the tax is 7%.
Keep in mind that that hotel taxes will be higher because you get hit with both the sales tax and a tourist tax. Also, there is no sales tax on most food items in a grocery store.
