Are Florida schools off for Pulaski Day (March 2)?

My DD is off the Friday before & Monday, March 2 for Pulaski Day.

I'm feeling the need to escape the freezing Chicago weather. We were thinking about Tampa and possibly Busch Gardens & SeaWorld.

Just trying to figure out if it will be real crowded.

Also, I'm hoping it is warm.........

Finally, looking for a nice hotel that will not break the bank. We would be flying into Tampa. (I think) It is actually cheaper to fly into Tampa and then out of Orlando. Would it make sense to do that? I have no idea how far of a drive it is between the two. I'm pretty clueless.

Any advice?

Illinois is the only state that observes Pulaski Day (for those that don't know, Casmir Pulaski Day honors a Polish general who helped in the Revolutionary War. It was passed about the same time as MLK Day, in Illinois). March is the start of spring break season, but the first week shouldn't be too bad as far as crowds. Tampa is about an hour away from Orlando.

I'm fairly certain that Illinois schools are the only ones who honor Pulaski Day and even then it's optional. This year my kids are in school on Pulaski Day but in prior years they've had it off. Basically, it's Chicago schools only that honor it from my knowledge. That weekend shouldn't be any more crowded than any other weekend in March since Easter is in April this year.

:rotfl: I guess I learn something new everyday. I had no idea IL schools were the only ones who recognized Pulaski. I must have been sleeping during history class that day. :guilty:

Thanks for the info!

We celebrate Pulaski days here in Grand Rapids, Michigan on the first full weekend each October. Not a day off from school, but there is a festival on the weekend.

Funny, I am from Savannah, GA, where we havea square named after Casmir Pulaski as well as a fort (Ft. Pulaski) that was used in the Civil War. I think there are a few other Pulaski things in Savannah (oh there is an elementary school), but NOTHING is done in Savannah to honor him. He's mentioned on the tours of dowtown, but not celebrated. However if you say Oglethorpe in Savannah, then confetti is thrown (well not really but still.......)

In Jacksonville there is a road named Pulaski but I dont think the kids get out of school LOL. My kids are homeschooled but I don't ever remember getting out of school for Pulaski Day?

I had never heard of it until today! I guess that answers your question (I'm in Florida).

I am in Texas and I have never heard of it. March 2 is Dr. Seuss's birthday and Texas Independence Day though!
