Florida residents rates on left-coast cruises a bad omen?

Makes you "wonder" how sales are going for the repositioned cruises? If the ship was sailing full, DCL wouldn't need a FRR for the May 28th sailing (first announced so far) would they? Maybe the demand isn't there?

Does anyone know about capacity on the remaining West Coast sailings?

DCL has released Florida Resident Rates every year since 2000. They use them to fill up the ship during slow periods of the year just as Walt Disney World offers specials to Florida Residents during slow periods.

From past articles concerning the West coast cruises and the Panama Canal Cruises, Disney did very well in filling the ships. Even at prises of $5,000 for a category 11 on the PC cruises.

Why not offer a discounted rate to Disneyland AP holders??? They are already in California! How does offering a Florida resident rate fill up a cruise that is cruising out of Los Angeles??!! I don't get it.

I wondered the same thing! Nothing against Florida residents, but they already get many discounts for WDW and the Florida DCL sailings.

I agree that this offer should have been for CA residents and/or DL AP holders. For one thing, how many FL residents are going to fly across country to sail out of a CA port? CA residents can easily drive to the port of LA.

Color me puzzled... seems like one of the dumber moves on the part of DCL marketing.

Totally AGREE. As a DL AP holder I would love to get my discount. And it does seem like that would be a natural choice to offer it to the DL holders

I agree! Disneyland AP holders should get the discounts out of California, just like Disney World AP holders get them out of Florida!!! Or...offer ALL discounts to ALL AP holders!!!

Just checked and it looks like cat. 7 - 12 are showing available on the 5/14 - 5/28 Repo cruise right now.
(although only 1 cat. 7 cabin, didn't check all the others)

Maybe they had more folks not make final payment than they had expected (though that was awhile ago)

I guess I can see them offering a FRR on that one since it does sail out of FL.

But if they find they need to discount the rest of the West Coast sailings, I think Mary is right.
If I were a CA resident and found that FL residents were able to get a discount that was not available to me (when the ship is sailing out of CA) don't think I'd be any too happy.

It will be interesting to see what they do.

Oops: edited to fix my goof on the sail date, got typing too fast.
I'm on that cruise... you'd think I could get the dates right!

I just tried getting a florida resident rate on that cruise and it wouldn't work. Now assuming they are offered and the lowes it 999 as stated, you are only saving about 250 per person over current prices. If you booked right away, your prices is probably less than the florida resident rate (if it really does apply)

Also, they wouldn't apply any discounts to your already booked cruise (even if they did do a CA discount) because it is less than 60 days to the cruise, and my understanding is they don't adjust the prices.

As for not being full. These cruises were booked full the first week of opening. And the prices skyrocketed. It's been almost a year, so I'm sure they've had lots of cancelations. Since these cruises aren't really being advertised (can't tell you how many people here in CA i've talked to that had no idea the DCL would have cruises this summer), and for a long time the were booked up, only those who really want to go on one, would know about them.

Add to that, I don't think most people are in the position to plan a cruise less than 60 days out.

The repo cruise is 5/14- 5/28

It might have something to do when schools are out. Florida schools get out a lot earlier (before the end of May usually) than schools in CA, which traditionally go until June 18th to 21st or so.

Like the last poster stated--schools here are done early May (we start first week in Aug).
I agree it doesn't make sense that discounts are for FL res. as opposed to CA. res.!! I thought the same thing when I received an email from All Seasons about it.
Who knows--just glad I booked day 1 for my PC cruise coming home!

Maybe they're throwing a bone to Florida for the lost revenue from the ship not being there all summer.

Heck, I'm a Disney stockholder, (and not just 1 share!!!) and we don't even get discounts for anything anymore.

I'm in California, and my high schooler gets out May 20, and my Junior high schooler gets out June 9.......so school doesn't go that much later here. Both started school August 17.

We are going to DL the week of June 20, and at least at this point, the park is closing at 9 pm with no showing of Fantasmic, which I find odd if accurate, they should be on summer hours by then.

I didnt' think any AP holder got discounts on DCL..just resident discounts at times. ??

There is usually one 3-day or 4-day cruise per year in January or February that is discounted for WDW AP holders. You're right that most of the discounts are for FL residents.

As a Florida resident and WDW Annual Passholder I can vouch for the fact that they very seldom offer discounts to passholders. It generally happens once a year for the special "Passholder Cruise" that others have mentioned.

Perhaps the special rates are in response to angry Floridians calling Disney about the repositioning? :) After all, the ships are owned by Walt Disney World so they have to keep their base happy. The ship is only going to be in CA for three months. If the Californians are mad it won't matter for too long but if you get the Floridians all worked up they're going to have to deal with us for a long time to come. ;)

WHY should Californians get the resident discount... they don't have to pay for airfare and you guys stole our ship.... what more do you want?
kidding folks, just kdding.

DCL isn't the only cruise line to offer FL resident discounts, so think its just a tourism industry standard down here.

All I know is that the May 14 Repo cruise is definitely not full... I wonder if it is just because the repo cruises are so much $$$.

Are many of the west coast cruises full??
I had my doubts on how well the west coast and repo cruises would sell. I know the western DISers are excited, but I think the vast majority of Disney visitors both to WDW and DCL come from the East Coast and Mid West. Florida is just a lot closer, and cheaper to travel to. I don't think there is as much a demand for it out west. If DCL does actually add a third ship.. and I don't think they will for a while, they need to leave it here in Florida or at least on the East Coast.

Anyway,I would love to go on the repo cruise..if I could afford it!

I would say that they added it to get those Florida res. to go to DL. Think about it...they fly out there for a discounted cruise and being from Florida, maybe they have never been to DL and so while they are there they take a few extra days to spend more money than they would have. Everyone in Cali already goes to DL so they wouldn't attract any newbees to DL.

Just a thought from a midwesterner :earsboy:
