Florida residents, do you agree?

Mondragon-Why do you celebrate when people from NJ and NY leave? They are homeowners in Florida and have every right to be there, just like you do. I am sure the "snowbirds" are well off, if they can afford to live in 2 different states, what do they do that makes you celebrate when they leave? You sound hostile.

You would not understand unless you were a Florida native. They are obnoxious and very loud, bad at driving, very bad tippers, clog our roadways. All you hear is "in New York you can get this and do that etc....." The worst are the transplants who have been here for less than 10 years. They bash Florida on how cold it gets sometimes in the winter (us true floridians love the cold weather), the hot weather and say how great ny/nj is. This is why they call Florida southern NY.

It was a little harsh, but there are some issues with snowbirds and the biggest issue for where I live is their driving. South FL has a lot of traffic and a huge number of really bad drivers and because of this many accidents which causes huge insurance rates. Add in the elderly population during the winter months and it is worse. I'm not saying that they all stink at driving. However, there are many that are stubborn and hanging on to that independence even though they really shouldn't be driving.

Not every snowbird is rolling in the money either. Many are living on a fixed income. I live in Boca Raton and before I lived here I thought everyone was well off. That's until I would go to the grocery store at the end of the month and see the police picking up the elderly and bringing them home because they couldn't afford the cab fare.

Don't worry about poor elderly drivers in Florida, we have our share of them here. I know numerous times when they seriously injure people because they confuse the gas pedal for the brake pedal. A woman in a local grocery store lost her leg recently because of this and 5 people were just seriously injured in another grocery store in the NYC area last week because of the same thing. I am all for re-testing elderly drivers, it's a big problem.

I love Mizner Park!!! So much fun to just park the car and walk around. Such great shopping and restaurants!

I love to visit Florida but would never live there. Florida has a lot of transients. You can drive thru a neighborhood with million dollar houses and then a few minutes later you are in the slums. We live in northern NJ and love the change of seasons. Also, I remember thinking the annual resident passes were expensive? How much is an AP for a Florida resident?

Slums? I'm not sure you visited all of Florida. Like I haven't visited all of NJ and what I saw in nNJ was scary. But I can't judge the whole state based on that.

well, I love visiting Florida...and I like the sound of those disney discounts..... but....as others have noted,there are lots of great places to visit that aren't Disney,if you don't live nearby,and since we live in the NE a trip to Boston/Maine/NYC/ etc etc is cheap and easy so I guess when we save money visiting local (for us) we can save it for bigger trips like Florida.... it all balances out.... Heck we visited DC for a long weekend last month to see the cherry Blossoms....it was a cheap trip for 9 people and we had a blast!

Yes but I was talking about Disney not other places to visit. I'm sure many of us visit other places, states countries. I was specifically asking about Disney.

@Xennia.....I know...I know..... my point was that overall the savings balance out ,since we don't just visit Disney, we visit a lot of places. And geographically we all have less/more expensive travel places....so the balance is higher cost to visit Disney, lower cost to visit NE locations......it would be opposite for you! that said, I envy FL residents the hot weather and lack of snow......I may become one someday for that reason!
