Hello All!

My parents have just recently purchased a second home in Florida. What is the proof of Florida residency required for Florida Resident Rates and how much of a discount is it?

PS- I know that I could look this up, but thought I would find the answer quicker from all of you experts! Thanks- you're the best!

:teeth: :wizard:

I think they need a driver's liscence but don't quote me. I am really interested in the discounts on rooms that are available.

For instance, how many rooms can a resident book, do they all have to be at the same resort and for the same length of time???

can anyone help?

either a valid Florida issued Drivers Liscense, State ID or military id to one of the 3 bases active in the state of florida.

Discounts on rooms are pretty good - at some times get value resorts for about $49, moderate $74, and deluxe $129. Not all resorts are available for the discounts however (especially in the deluxe category), and there are a limited number set aside for the discount in each. I have tried to book on the day the codes have out (but before they are advertised thanks to mousesavers.com) at about 7:00 am, and still not gotten the resort I really wanted though I always do get a room. Discounts on tickets seems to vary from year to year. When I was in college (we're talking 15-20 years ago) they used to have FL Resident days, where FL residents could get in for $19.95. Last year they had a really good deal where you could get 4 days for $109, and the days just had to be used before a certain date (it was a time period of about 6 months I think, we used all of ours during one week, so not really sure on that). This year they have 3 days for $119, that have to be used within a certain time period. And we get a small discount on most of the MYW tickets - I think a one day is about $5 less than normal without hopping, and a little bit of a bigger discount with hopping/pluses.

Great information! So they would need to give up their Michigan driver's licenses and get Florida ones to get the discount?

Also, are they allowed to buy AP's for people other than just themselves? (Like for their children and grandchildren for instance.)

Are they also able to book on DCL for others in their family if they wouldn't be cruising with them?

Sorry for all of the questions, but I am really hoping to be able to luck out here!

:goodvibes

They don't need to have an actual license, just a state ID card. No, they cannot buy AP's for non-FL residents. (Well, they could, but you couldn't use them unless you were a FL resident.) To activate your AP (or any ticket with a FL discount), the user has to show proof of residency. You also have to show proof of residency to check into a resort using a FL resident discount. I have read on these boards that some people have not been asked for ID, but I always have, so I wouldn't take the chance. Only children do not have to show proof of residency, as they do not usually have the means to do so. I am sure some FL residents do get FL resident tickets for their grandchildren, but personally I think that is wrong as it is dishonest.

The best discount is on the AP's. As far as proof you would need a state issued ID or DL. Also for a FL ressie to get kids FL tickets or APs when getting them activated I believe a FL resident adult has to be there with them to show there FL ID. I may not always get asked to show my AP at checkin with an AP discount but I gave ALWAYS been asked to show my ID for FL resident discounts and tickets.

HI, my parents also bought a 2nd home in Florida, and gradually (over about 5 years) they spent more time in Florida, and less in Indiana, they are now trying to break it to us that they are finally selling their "summer home in IN!)

Well, this year we're going to Disney with them!! I booked 2 rooms, and then found out that my dad can book 3 rooms on his Florida license (or state ID) I can keep the reservation in my name, but dad has to check in and show his Florida license for both the rooms (we're requesting adjoining rooms, but according to the CM, it doesnt matter!)

As far as tickets, the previous posters have said the same thing that I've been told. Now if I can just convince my parents they need to buy a ticket!!! (they have 2 days left on an old park hopper, they think!)

This probably wouldn't apply to anyone's parents, but you can also show a Student ID from a Florida college or university to prove Florida residency. A lot of people don't realize this. I've mentioned it to several people here at UF that are from out of state who were going to WDW and they had no idea. So I saved them some money. :)

Thanks again for all of the information! We live in GA and have had AP's before since the drive isn't all that far. I don't personally consider it that dishonest for my parents to buy the kids AP's as Florida Residents since my kids will be spending almost the whole summer there and all of their winter break and my parents would be the ones taking them to the park most of the time anyway.

I also do think that just like Eeyore45 my parents will also end up most of the time in Florida anyway. As it stands now, they only plan to be in MI about 4 months of the year. So they truly will be more FL residents than MI!

I have found in the past to get good discounts on rooms with an AP- even not being a Florida resident. I was more looking at MYW tickets or AP discounts if my parents were the ones to purchase them for us to go with them.

Thanks again for all of the information!
