florida resident discount

(Where does Disney get off being more strict than the state? How can they force you to register to vote or to have a FL DL?)

They are not FORCING you to register to vote or get a DL, simply that you must have one for a resident discount. They are not denying you entrance to the parks, you are free to pay the same rate for admission as any other guests, Disney is NOT required to offer you a discount, it is a courtesy...and they can restrict or limit that courtesy any way they wish.

This kind of thing is why I left DisBoard two years ago, and why I'm leaving again today. I thought this board was a friendly place to swap information, but everytime I try that, somebody gets snippy and judgemental with me. Did I tell everyone to break the law, make up complete lies, etc.? Or did I just pass on information that I got DIRECTLY FROM DISNEY to try to answer someone's question? There was no need, nor call for the last two comments. No, you don't know my story, my story had nothing to do with this thread or this board, and you're not a Highway Patrolman, so I fail to see what on earth made you feel the need to insert your little editorial in the middle of a conversation about WDW passes.

There are an awful lot of nice people on this board, but it's just not worth all of this hassle and nonsense. Sorry, but I'm off to delete my membership now.

Wow, someone have thin skin. Sorry you deleted your membership. I merely commented that you claimed that Disney was forcing you to do something that LEGALLY you are bound to do.

Never saw the point in the big dramatic message board departure messages.

My husband and I are in the process of purchasing a condo in FL for our winter residence. Will we be able to get a Florida ID and subsequently get Florida resident discounts at WDW? We will own a home and have utility bills in our name, but we don't plan to change to a FL driver's license.

Will WDW accept just a utility bill as proof, if one doesn't have the Florida ID? I ask because my husband is not a U.S. citizen and may not be able to get a Florida ID if he doesn't get a fulltime visa. So could he use just a utility bill in his name for the FL resident discount at WDW?

Susan

no, sorry..... there are only 5 forms of ID that will be accepted as proof of Florida residency and mortgages and electric bills are not some of them.

The ones that will be accepted are:
Valid Florida State Driver's License
Valid Florida State issued ID
Valid Florida school ID w/ picture
Valid Florida Voter's Registration Card w/ valid picture ID
Military papers that state that you are stationed in Florida along with Valid Military ID.

Other forms have not been accepted since January of 2004, and there are no exceptions made. Sorry!

What is the Florida State Issued ID?

....and btw - I just have to throw in that I had the my drivers license from one state and never lived there for 20 years once I moved out. Everybody's got a story. (Yes, my story is legal, too.)

I got my VRC back in just one week! To be honest, though, I was treated so rottenly that I haven't gone back to buy my pass yet. (Where does Disney get off being more strict than the state? How can they force you to register to vote or to have a FL DL?)
I just want to clear up some information to anyone that might be moving to FL. I had to show my FL DL when registering to vote. When I vote I have to show my FL DL so they can make sure I am voting in the right district and that I am who I say I am. By law you are suppose to change everything over to FL within 30 days of moving here, if you are going to live here full-time. This information is not meant to offend just give people moving to FL full-time the correct information.

I own a house in both Mass and FL. I was able to get a "FL Only" drivers license for everyone in the family. This is a perfectly acceptable ID for WDW.

You don't need to surrender your current state's license and you do not get voting priveleges.

There are valid reasons for NOT turning in your state's license and Florida reconizes that. If you are still a full time resident (6 months or better) of (for example) MA you must have a vaild MA license if you are going to drive. Florida requires a valid FL license if you are going to drive in FL for more than 90 days (and that's total time, not consecutive). Your FL license states your FL address, your other license states your other address.

I don't feel like I'm cheating the system. I own property and pay taxes in FL. I just also happen to own property, work and pay taxes in MA also. Some day I'll work in FL, it's just not now.

I am in the same situation. My parents ( FL residents ) will be purchasing everyones tickets. ( With the discount). We will be visting from out of state. I called Disney and they said that would be fine. My parents would need the DL to purchase the tix, but we may use them if we are all together. I am going to try this. Worst case I will have to pay when I get there.

I don't think this will wotk as everytime we have been with a group of friends or family that have bought FL resident tickets -for every adult ticket bought there had to be a ID with it. When me and my DH bought our AP's or renew them we both have to show ID's. My dad and stepmom just bought MYW tickets and he tried to buy tickets for both of them while my stepmom done other things and they told him that they couldn't sell it to him without her there to show her ID.

We also have had to show an ID everytime we renew our AP's. So for the person who hasn't had to you are very lucky.

Do you mean show ID when they are purchased, or redeemed at the gate?
Sorry I am confused.
Thanks!!

I went to buy our APs while DBF was looking for the closest smoking area. Even though I had his ID they would not sell it to me til they confirmed he was there and the picture on the ID was him. I guess they have had problems with that in the past.

If you are buying them at AAA or Disney store you don't need ID you will need ID at the parks when redeeming the vouchers for the pass. They always ask for ID when redeeming pass. Last year we upgrade DD18 4play pass for an AP, her purse had been stolen the Friday before we left (we were leaving Sunday) She used her old student ID and I brought her birth certificate. I think they accepted it because she was already in the system with the play 4 pass and her info matched mine. Plus we have been AP holders since '96

You need to show your ID when you redeem them if you buy them ahead of time they will send you a voucher so you will not need an ID for that. If you buy the tickets at WDW you will show the ID when purchasing.
