Does anyone know why Disney has discontinued allowing a Student ID to be used as proof of residence in Florida? Also is there any other way that I can proof my friends florida residency? Her mom lives in Ft. Lauderdale, but my friend technically lives with her father in New York, but she goes to Stetson University in DeLand Florida. They have told me a utilities bill with her name on it would work, but she's a college student, she doesn't pay for utilities, she still lives with her parents. I will be discussing this with someone at Disney on the phone tomorrow, but I was just wondering if anyone on here had any ideas.

Thanks

Have her get a state I'd card using her moms address.

For the most part, student IDs do not have a year on it. So technically you could "always" be a FL student. But I'm not entirely sure why Disney stopped it.

Has your friend thought about getting a FL license since her mother lives here? I think you can have one in two states. Or just a FL ID.

This website is the official one for info on getting a FL ID card or Florida driver license.

http://www.gathergoget.com/

If she has all the info it is a rather simple process to get a FL id card. If she doesn't pay utilities, she can use a rental lease and statement from a person she lives with.

I just went through this process with DBF.

I don't know why Disney discontinued this, probably as suggested above, that the college id's do not dates on them. At least mine didn't.

Hope this helps.

Added: It costs $25 or 35 to do, and try to make an appointment at the local Driver license office.

Going to college in a state does not make you a resident of the state - that's why there is resident and non-resident tuition. So your friend is not a resident, and not entitled to Disney resident offers unless she can provide the items required.

(Why not have her do it herself too since she's the one going to school there and trying to get FL offers? - meaning I don't know why you would be speaking to someone at Disney about it on her behalf.)

If she already has a New York Driver'S license, she cannot do this. Florida changed the law last year. I had asked last year when we were considering dual residency. Only 1 state ID per person. I could not find it online, but was told at DMV. Would be worth asking ahead of time. (In this case--this was if we had no renter and our Florida home would be our secondary residence.)

Why doesn't she just change her permanent residency to her mom's house?

OP, if she registered to vote, would Disney accept a voter card?

That's what I meant by getting the state I'd card - swap out the new York one for a Florida one using her mom's address. Then she would be a FLA resident and entitled to the discounts

I'm speaking to them because I'm buying the ticket for her. I could use my car insurance to show my residency but I can't buy a FL resident ticket for someone else, they have to be a FL resident too. She wont let me pay $300 for a ticket for her. I want her to be at Disney with me on my Birthday since she has never been there and this is a pretty big birthday so i am paying for her ticket, but she won't let me pay the $300 for a 3 day park hopper. For a FL resident it is $175. I have been on the phone with Disney for the past 3 days and every time I get a new person, I get a new answer. It is so frustrating. My birthday is on Tuesday. I called a couple months ago to make sure a student ID would work and they said yes, and I called again this week just to make sure and now I am just super frustrated and so is she, because I keep changing the plans on her.

We have homes in Wisconsin and one in Florida where we spend 4 months of the year. We were able to get Florida ID cards two years ago and they are good until 2017. Disney does accept this ID card and we can get resident rates. We have friends who are in the same situation of wintering in Florida, however, they were told you can no longer get the ID cards unless you declare residency.

I also don't have time to get her a FL iicense(she has a FL ID, her school ID is considered a FL ID) I am going to Disney on Friday and she will be joining me this coming Monday. So there is no time to stand at the DMV to try and change her residency. I just want to validate her residency. I live in Texas and Disney will accept my car insurance and registration as proof of residency even though all that documentation is sent to my school address in Florida, but they won't accept that same address for my roommate who has a car registered in New York. I think it's kind of ridiculous. And I am tired of getting conflicting answers from the people on the phone. I talked to two people today and one of them said her student ID would be 100% usable, they even asked their supervisor, but wouldn't let me speak to their supervisor and instead transferred me somewhere else and that person said 100% no I couldn't use a student ID and they wouldn't let me speak to their supervisor either. It is so frustrating. They told me someone could call me with in the next 48 hours, but that is pointless because I will already be at Disney in 48 hours.

That does suck. I would just go to the gate with her (and student ID) and just ask. Then tell them how many times you've been through the run around on the phone. You might get some one that can help you out in person (like a supervisor) rather than the call center.

Have you tried calling the Magic Kingdom Guest Relations directly? They'd be of more help, and the one to help you when you get there, rather than the call center.

Does she have a bank or credit card that sends mail to her mom's? Looks like they would accept that too.

But a school ID is not a Government issued ID. I was in line behind a "guest" last week trying to argue they should be allowed the Fl discount with a school ID and the CM explained school ID is no longer accepted.

There is also a ticket sticky here by Cheshire Figment (who is a ticket CM) that says student ID is not accepted.

i got an AP using my student ID in 2009. In 2010 they would not let me renew online, and I had to go to a guest relations or a ticket window to purchase my renewal. It was because they had my student ID as proof of residency. This time I showed my FL license. When we first moved, they wouldn't accept military orders AND a rental lease as proof of residency for my wife (we had just moved within a month of visiting WDW). We had to purchase a regular military ticket and later upgrade it to a FL AP once she got her FL license. I doubt they would accept the student ID since their policy has been in effect since 2010. As others have stated, she could get a bank account with a FL address, print of a statement online, and then bring that as proof. Also to play devil's advocate, they verify residency at time of purchase, but I've NEVER had my residency verified anywhere else. I've read of people who purchase FL 3/4-day fun passes, never use them themselves, and pass them on to out-of-state relatives to use (since they never registered their biometrics). Of course the issue of one bad seed ruining it for everyone else comes up and residency verification may be ramped up as a result.

These are the official rules for Florida resident requirements, copied from one of Cheshire Figment's posts:

These are the official rules:

Florida Resident tickets are only available to actual Florida Residents and cannot be purchased for out-of-state family or friends.

An adult Florida Resident may purchase Florida Resident media for more than one Florida Resident from any location that provides an exchange certificate and not an actual ticket.

Children under the age of 18 are not required to provide proof of Florida residency if they are accompanied by an adult with valid proof of Florida residency

If the Guest has an exchange certificate, a valid form of Florida ID will be required when the exchange certificate is redeemed for the actual pass

One ticket only per valid proof of Florida residence (a Florida resident may buy tickets for minors in the party)

Exchange Certificates may say:

"After sale..., may not be transferred except as a gift." This means that the certificate may be given as a gift, so long as the recipient meets the defined Florida residency criteria.

"Purchase and redemption of this exchange certificate requires proof of Florida Residency."

The following items are the only documents accepted as proof of Florida Residency:
* Valid Florida State Drivers License
* Valid Florida State issued ID Card with Florida Address
* Valid Military ID stationed at one of the Florida Military Bases listed below:
(List of bases removed as unneeded)

As of August 20, 2010, Voter Registration Card is no longer an allowed ID
As of August 20, 2010, Florida University/College Student ID is no longer allowed

For Part-Year Residents the following original documents are acceptable.

Note that fax and photocopies are not acceptable, that bills and mail cannot be more than two months old, that PO Box addresses are not allowed, and items related to Time Shares are not permitted.

Must have a driver's license or state photo ID card from another state, or a non-US Passport and at least one of the following items which does show a Florida address:
* Monthly mortgage statement
* Current homeowner's insurance policy or bill, current automobile registration, insurance policy or bill or current utility bill (Power/Phone/Cable/Water).
* Statement from a financial institution showing checking, savings or investment information or mail from a Federal or Florida State, County or City government agency.

Effective August 20, 2010 Proof of Rent, Mortgage or Ownership such as a Deed, mortgage payment booklet or residential lease are no longer allowed.
