Florida On a Budget :0( Please Help

Thanks for the advice. Well I am so excited. My husband has agreed to book a holiday after xmas to Florida in November.

The flights are cheaper and the villas are cheaper. We will also see the lights, which will be another experience.

I am so excited I just cant wait till after xmas and new year and book it all. Then it really feels like we are going. I can have my count down clock ticking LOL!

Thanks for the advice it has really helped and all the nagging I have done I managed to persuade him.

Try looking on the Funway site as we saved over £1000 on one trip for 4 of us by taking indirect flights.

( not nice flights but it meant we could stay an extra week )

Good luck with your choice - Oneida Loop is an ideal location, well away from the roadworks - it was one we considered for next year and the owners are friendly.

I have an idea - book what you want on a credit card and then get another card to swop the balance - interest free for however many months and that way you pay it back but dont pay any more for it!

I booked my flights etc on one card, got the nectar points ( all you Virgin points collectors could do the same with the Virgin card) and now the balance is on a 9 months 0% interest card. It works if you're buying a non package holiday and have to pay every thing up front and not just a deposit. Personally I'd see what the packaged holidays can offer, then do a bit of research online and see if you can get it cheaper. Being a single parent I always have to pay adult price for my DD I was quoted £2,275 for the same holiday that I'll have paid just under £1200 for. I am flying indirect, and struck lucky with one hotel being only £28.80 a night -and no it aint a flea pit It's got good reviews on tripadviser ( excellent site for finding out peoples thoughts on hotels all over the world). It sounds daft but I actually enjoyed the bargain hunt and the £1000 I save will go a long way towards park tickets etc!

Hi i'm really glad you've got there in the end I've found this post very inspirational(sp)as i'm trying to get to anaheim next year, 1 adult, 3 kids,eldest son classed as adult.The prices have been-shocking-lol.But i've taken some of the advice here on board.Unfortunately i can't card tart anymore, but i'll be watching the virgin site like a hawk over xmas-lol

It's not an offence over here in the UK to transfer balances from a high interest CC to a 0% one - the banks encourage it in the hope you'll not pay the money off and get hit by high rates at the end of the intro period.

Swapping CC balances from card to card is actively encouraged here, by the credit card companies. But to take advatage of 0% introductory rates most have a 2% fee for balance transfers to a max of £50, so anything over £2500 means a max of £50 Not bad if you can get a transfer of say £5000.

not an expert but, if i was going at this time of the year, i would check out both Universal site and Disney site, Universal where doing 4 day stays plus park admittance free, and then move on to Disney for the 10 days and free dining plan, why not wait and see what they are offering later in the year.Then just book flights and book car before you go

I think everyone is right that if you keep looking you can get cheaper flights etc. I thought the car was a little expensive and you can do better. There is something in kissimee called days inn suites old towne. Its not grand but has two seperate rooms and a separate kitchen. It was really cheap ($50.00) per night several years ago, it may be a nice compromise between the villa and hotel room. THere are several chains that offer these suites. Keep universal (you need the change) but maybe only one day one park or two days two parks and cut out sea world etc. THere are deals to be had on non disney parks. Have you tried either american triple A or there are several sites that sell discount tickets (try finding them on themouseforless). cut out the rainforest cafe and the other meals (sorry) and you may have a managable trip. Also, I know its too American but we (as you know) take much shorter holidays, one reason is money. I know airfare is high, but would say 10 days make a big difference?

We are waiting till pay day to book our holiday. We are getting a small loan to pay for the flights. We are saving for the rest.

We are staying for 16 nights and staying at a villa in Indian Creek. Paying for the flights via a loan will really help us and it will mean we can enjoy ourselves more once we are there and wont be on a tight budget.

Thanks for all of your help I really appreciate it. All the suggestions are really great. We decided if we went back we really wouldnt want to be on a budget. Especially having 3 children.

I think that's a good point, but personally speaking the airfare is so expensive from the UK, that an extra few night's accommodation & spending money really doesn't make much difference to the overall price

Also with the long flights and often long journeys from home to the airport (and jetlag) it's often nice to be able to do a fortnight or so (got to get the best value out of those pricey flights )

We are over the moon. We cant wait to book it all. Once its all booked it will feel more like we are going. Cant wait I am so excited how am I going to make the time pass quickly October cant come quick enough. Although having said that the planning is great.

Magenta and Miffy are correct. Kiting is fraudulently drawing against uncleared funds, e.g. if you were to pay a cheque into your account for $100,000 knowing that it would not clear, and then drawing against those funds fraudulently. What was proposed here is known as credit card surfing - looking for the best deal at any moment in time.

I would usually agree - but we're about to make a ten day trip ourselves. We have our 7 day magic your way premium tix bought and paid for - so we're going to do 10 days - and only do disney and then spend the other 3 days at water park or shopping or resting (perish the thought!)

We did think should we just go for 14 like usual but then you have to add on four more nights in hotel / four days more car hire and insurance / four days more food / four days more spending money / more theme park tix - as we'd have to do universal or sea world / four days more parking... it does actually add up to quite a bit when you look at it that way
