Florida Love Bugs

We are heading south in early October and are worried about the car being pelted by love bugs. Is October high season for them?

Typically, love bug season here is May and September. I have already begun to see them (last weekend), so we may be getting a bit of an early start. So, by October, they should be winding down.

Depending on when you come in October, the bigger concern would be the mosquitoes. There have been several times during Halloween time that the mosquitoes were quite bad that they curtailed outdoor trick or treating (encouraged trick or treating at the Malls).

So, no, I don't think you'll have a big problem with love bugs when you come. But they ARE horrible on your car when they're here!!!

We go in September...the first year we went they were AWFUL!!!!!! All over the car....it took forever to get them all off.

The second two years they have been very few and far between. Really weird. We are heading down again in a few weeks......I'm hoping for the second senario.

They are beginning to splatter my windshield. This must be the beginning of the season. We had a "pair" on our deck yesterday, they are really harmless, except for the mess they are making on my car.
