Florida homeowner tax bill

Alright, I can’t help myself, but now I’m just picturing Scrooge McDuck. lol. You can’t hate on school kids learning; that’s just off limits!🤣

Proud public school parent so maybe I’m biased, but I also want the majority of the next generation of people we all have to deal with to have educations as well. lol.

Not wanting a debate but, I’m not wanting other children to fail, never would I want that. But as a homeschool parent who pays thousands into the school system every year plus pays for all of my sons homeschooling supplies and books and physical education it really sucks that the only way I can get any of the money I put in back for my son is if I was low income. The local school system is alotted $9500 for my son who does not attend. There should be a way for me to recoup some of that, but I do understand that there are many that would take advantage of it so that type of system will never happen for the middle class.

Reflected for a second and wanted to come back and say I do understand what you are saying about schools needing the taxes and how it needs to be charged to all residents regardless if they utilize schools. I do agree with that. It’s just a sensitive subject for me since I am double paying to school my child. But it’s worth it so I do it.

Thank you for understanding. It’s important we are all clear: the basic maintenance costs unfortunately do not scale with student numbers for things like schools. The building costs are still there and have to be paid first, whether your kids attend or not. So cuts to schools mean the kids attending get less in education, which is harmful for our communities.

Didnt they get rid of cursive writing and teaching kids how to sign their signature too?? That seems important enough to me 🤣 I need to go over there and tell them whats up 🤣🤣
I have opted out of teaching cursive. He struggles to read his birthday cards from his grandma (only time he ever sees it) but he manages to figure out out.
No, no, no, cursive is the last way for us to keep secrets from our kids. They can’t read it.
Hahaha yes!!
My 11 year old technically can sign her name as she’s had a few cursive classes, but she struggles hard and the results are pretty poor. I’ve told her she has to practice before signing her passport.
We just got passports. I didn’t realize he was going to need to sign it. Fun!

It depends on the country!

For the US, the parent can sign on behalf of the child AND someone needs to sign the kid’s passport (parent or child).

For Canada (which we also have), parents explicitly may NOT sign on behalf of the child, and the kids under 16 MAY sign but they do not have to.

Ahh okay. We are using for the first time next month. 😎

Well, her signature is her signature, whether the handwriting is according to the "rules" for cursive or not. For various reasons, my handwriting has deteriorated severely, and my signature is now just a series of squiggles, but it's accepted as my signature on my driver's license and my passport as well as other legal documents.

You’re not wrong! I just know she hasn’t really practiced yet at all and gotten used to the motions, so she forgets how to make the letters sometimes.

Yes. Most people under 20 don’t seem to know how to sign their names (I’m a pharmacist and I get to see when people sign their names at pickup). Maybe even under 25.

Why dont they teach it if its still necessary in daily life is the thought process that this will eventually fade out?

There was just such a strong emphasis on it when I was in elementary school and now its gone. Myself and another kid had the ugliest handwriting and I got dinged for it and im like hey its not my fault I got ugly writing geez 🤣 Now these kids are free 🤣

get an electric car lol

my purchase of one a few years ago (when gas prices were very low) is suddenly feeling validated.
I feel intimidated by it and I dont know why, I just dont know where to begin! I dont want a tesla, what do you recommend

I think its normal human nature for us to look at it and say geez but im not even utilizing this. I had to do some reflection myself and think well theres a lot of talented future people that can make this world a better place even tho I won't be here my nieces will be, but its kind of hard to think like that when youre a little unhappy with the world right now and dont trust any of these powers that be right now (And I ain't trying to be political because as of right now I am an equal opportunity hater of them all lol!)

I think the antidote to some of the world’s problems is education, so we should all want that for our communal kids. Even if you don’t have your own kids in school, remember the “it takes a village to raise a child” saying? It’s true, and we are the village! And the consequences of lack of education can clearly be seen throughout the US. So I’d like more and better education, for all the kids.
