I have fine, kinda short, naturally wavy hair that I mousse and blow dry into submission at home. Even after trying countless different strategies, my hair at Disney is consistently AWFUL. Frizzy. Has flapping fuzzy wings and curlicues that take over in the Florida humidity. My sister has the same problem, and we call it "Florida Hair."

I know this is really, really trivial. I do have a life and work on other things. But Florida Hair has been bugging us for many trips, and lots of years.

Anyone else have this problem? What do you do? Does it work?

I too get Florida hair. My hair is fine and really really straight. When we are in WDW the water is harder than here at home, so my hair is a hudge tangle so I am always bringing deep deep conditioner. I used volumeizer to make it bigger because it will just lie there. Well in Fla. its as limp as limp. I use clips and put it back out of my face and worst comes to worst I buy a couple of baseball hats and wear a hat everywhere I go.

I have BIG crazy curly hair. I finally found a product that withstands humidity everywhere, even Florida. It's a moose that has a little bit of hold in it. It's by Biolage and called hydro-foaming styler. I put it in my hair, diffuse it dry and then put it on the dry hair to wipe out the frizzies that came up while blowdrying it. It's awesome and it lasts all day. Try it out!!

When you live in Florida, you learn to not worry about your hair. Between the humidity and the rain, everyone pretty much has the same hair. No big deal. I wear my hair short so that it doesn't matter.

If I don't put something in my hair, it goes all puffy. But, at WDW you're on vacation. I'm not sure anyone but you notices your hair. Just gel it, tie it back, & go!

Have a great time on your next trip.

Cut to signature pic:
Miz Kendall on the left -- long luxurious golden locks. Famous stalwart hobbit warrior on the right -- short prototypical "Florida" frizz curls... (after a day in the parks, my hair kinda resembles Mr. Wood's mullet apres-wrestling around with Gollum on Mt. Doom)
Feralpeg -- Have you been holding out on us???? Are you REALLY a lurking Elijah Woods??? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Actually, I tend to favor Gollum more!

I grew up in S. Florida and moved to Atlanta when I was 28--all those years I just thought I had really bad hair. It's like a whole different animal without the humidity. Now when I go to Disney, I just always wear a hat..no sense fighting nature. :earsgirl: pirate: :wizard: There are some products (moose, spray, etc..) that are designed to work in humidity if you're really needing a good hair day.

Boy do I have this same problem. I am not a vain person but I hate it when my hair ends up frizzy and so curly that my bangs look like they were cut by a 3 year old. Heather thanks for the tip on the hair product. I am going to the store to see if I can find it before we leave in December. Just wondering if December is as bad as the summer months for humidity?

1 Product :

:flower: Farouk - BioSilk - Silk Therapy (see: http://www.farouk.com/bsST1st.htm )

If you'll notice my gorgeous, flowing locks in my below picture (ahem! ) You'll see that is mid day - Florida, and VOILA! No frizz...

I also highly reccomend a good shampoo & conditioner. But if you absolutely MUST skip this essential step - the BioSilk is your best bet. :goodvibes

I have hair that is somewhat short and has its own curl/wave. If I am in any kind of humidity and blow dry it I end up with frizz. I finally figured out that if I put some kind of gel in it as it is starting to dry, and push it into some relatively decent shape and leave it alone and let it dry on its own, I am far better off. I also found that wearing a cute visor works well instead of a hat that smashes it down.

UGH! Did I ever hate my hair this past vacation! I would do it and it would look great.......not even 10 minutes outside and it was flat, limp and lifeless. I looked so stunning in the family photos... :crazy2: I look aweful in hats too so they weren't an option. I kept thinking there was no way I could live in Florida. I couldn't deal with the hair problem!

I too have the crazy, frizzy, curly hair. I just discovered Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny & I love it. You can buy the smaller trial size and it still lasts quite awhile. I've also tried Sebastian's Potion 9, and KMS Flat Out. With one of the above and a blowdryer I can get my wild hair stick straight. But do experiment at home first -- if you use toooooo much your hair will be kinda goopy & greasy looking! :earboy2:

I also have naturally curly hair that I blow dry into submission most days. Living in Texas and vacationing in Florida I've found that my best bet is to not fight nature on those humid days, which can even happen in December. Things I do... I never get my hair cut within a month of a trip (or at home within a month of getting pictures taken) so it is longer than usual and looks less like I just cut it myself. I also use a product called Citre Shine's Shine Miracle. It is like a very soft gel, but is very moisturizing. It turns fuzz into soft curls. I also take a bunch of little clips and then clip the curls back from my face. It is a look that I wouldn't normally do but works in high humidity.

I second CathrynRose's recommendation - BIOSILK! It's a miracle product... I have very thick, very curly hair - I'm talking a giant bush when it goes into frizzy-mode! Biosilk has been a godsend! This stuff is not cheap, though - it puts me into sticker shock! But, I recently discovered that Costco sells the 5.64 ounce size for $10.69 - good price and well worth every penny! Play with it to see what amount works best for you - at first I was being way too skimpy and found that a larger amount worked best for my unruly locks; your hair is finer so you might want to start with a smaller amount.... have fun, though! :flower:

Thanks for all the great tips........I'll try them for my next trip. I hate the way my has-a-mind-of-its-own-curly hair looks in vacation pics!! I usually wear a hat, but I'm getting tired of that look in the pics too!! I want to have pics that look like I usually do at home (somewhat normal) insted of ones that look like someone else on my vacation!

Thank you all for the great tips designed to defeat the dreaded Florida Hair. My sister and I will try them out and report back. We are going with her 3 daughters to Super Soap Weekend, staying 5 nights at the Beach Club--ok, stretching the weekend a bit. My husband and sons have to fend for themselves during that time, since this is planned to be a Girls Only experience--I hope they survive, and hope my house does not implode while I am gone. I am not a big Soap nut (watch only All My Children), but I think Soap weekend is a hoot!!! Everyone gets into the glamour, silliness, excitement, star-watching, etc.

Anyway, we will try the products and techniques, maybe as controlled experiments, and report back!!!

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After:

1. Splash Mountain
2. Kali Rapids
3. Misting in all the theaters

It's hopeless no matter what you put in your hair. Get the photos early and then don't worry about it! No one is looking at any of us anyway! :goodvibes

I have long natural curly hair and I've found "depp" to work extremly well. You can find it at Target.....it's cheap and it works
