Everyone recommends lots of bug spray for Disney World.

All the times I've been there, I've never noticed a bug problem. Actually, I'm always pleasantly surprised at the lack of mosquitoes and other little flying pests.

I grew up in MN, and am accustomed to lots of mosquitoes. I was expecting mosquitoes of the same caliber in Florida, since everyone talks about them, but I didn't notice any at all.

For those of you from the upper Midwest... have you noticed this as well?

When people complain about the mosquitoes at Disney, I almost want to say, "That's nothin'! Come see what we've got up here!"

We've never, ever, had to use bug spray in Orlando.

We were there in August and even with the extra rain (swampy areas) we did not have any bug issues. I think Disney fogs during the late night on a regular basis.

Some folks may be more sensitive or be 'bug attracters', I myself have had the rare mosquito land on me at the campground but really never had to use bug spray. Disney does run a spray truck through the campground in the middle of the night, not sure if it is every night but at least several nights the weeks I have been there. Sounds like a big fan running and flashing yellow lights on it. I'd probably recommend not going outside for a few minutes if you wake up and hear it coming.
Due to the recent heavy rains I have heard of more bugs, I'm sure someone with a recent visit may have more information.

Yep, they do that here in Fargo, too :thumbsup2

Makes a world of difference. Probably causes cancer, but at least it gets rid of the pests

I can't comment on the bugs at Disney since we are just getting ready to take our first trip. However, we moved to FL 4 years ago from NW Indiana and, I will say, that the pests at our new house are about 100x worse than the Indiana pests. The mosquitoes are about the same as far as visciousness is concerned, but there seems to be so many more of them. And then there are the sand gnats. Those buggers are crazy mean! When we go to the beach, we are sure to leave before sunset (if we aren't lathered up in bug spray) - otherwise they get ugly. Even at home, I have to call the kids in by 3PM in the warmer months (March to December) because the bugs get so bad. We live in a wooded area outside of the city - which makes a difference - but yeah, the bugs are definitely worse in Florida than they were in NW Indiana. Thankfully it sounds like they have a better handle on it at Disney though.

We're from northern Illinois, so I'm used to skeeters. I've never been bothered by bugs at Disney World. I assume that they do a lot of spraying, because judging by the number of pool cages I see as we drive through the Orlando area, there have got to be some pesky bugs in the area.

I'm here now and have only seen 1 mosquito since Saturday. That one was probably just a stowaway that I brought with me. :)

Florida bugs vs Midwest bugs

Is this a fighting match? Or should I say biting match? :lmao:

Don't worry, I didn't squash "Fred." He probably landed in the canal behind the 1600 loop, and will be part of the food chain next time you pull in one of those sun fish. :)
