Just looked at the news feed on my phone and I see an article describing people walking through waist high flood waters in the MK. Anybody experience this phenomenon. Been going since 1999 and have experienced some hellacious rainstorms but nothing like this news article describes. Just curious.

Late last October it rained like crazy one day/night. Our son and DIL were at the Studios, came back to their villa, changed and we took them over to EPCOT. They were up to their ankles in water and the park was empty. They really didn't care. It's Florida and it happens.

I'm local and I suspect what you were seeing pictures of happened a few days ago. We had to very strong thunderstorms that dumped 2+ inches of rain over a very short period of time on two consecutive days. During the time it was raining the park drain system was overwhelmed. But it was just a temporary thing.

If it was waste high they were either laying in a wading pool or a ditch.

I'd have to see a photo of someone standing in waist high water in the theme park before I believe it is real.

Along the legs, maybe even knees if they are at a low spot and a clogged drain during a down pour but that would be rare and short in duration, I would believe.

Waist, that's really stretching it to see it being possible anywhere along any walkway at Disney. I mean, you said you've been going since 1999. Think about the park layout. Is there anywhere you can picture where water could build up to waist level? Where in the park is it even contained in all 4 sides at that height?

There was a video from Test Track going around as well.
...and, speaking of, this was from last July:

....about 3 inches of water in some spots in a matter of minutes!

Once over 20 years ago my sister and I were in MK during a rainstorm so heavy that the water in Tomorrowland (over by Buzz) was knee-deep, seriously.

I'm 3 hours away in the ft myers area and we have had some storms that dropped 3 to 4 inches of rain plus hail in a short time the same days as this. There's been some crazy amounts of rain lately

It's Florida, it's summer, its hurricane season and DW is built on a swamp. It happens every year, you get fast hard rain in a short amount of time. It dries up pretty quick. I can remember sloshing through puddles that were over ankle deep 30 years ago. I don't know why all of the sudden it's a thing.

I so want to see the pictures of waist-high water in MK.

A search got several where the water was just above the ankle but that was in one, small area. And some pics at DHS - also ankle deep. Maybe knee-deep on small kids.

To answer hmansionlover: No, I've never experienced people walking through waist high flood waters in the MK.

What's made it a thing is OP said it they heard waist deep.
Which would be quite a thing to find in the parks.
But I'm not sure it's been proven thus far
