It is 10 degrees outside, with the wind chill factor well below zero. We have at least three feet of snow on the ground. We are getting ready to go to lunch and shopping. I told my DD14 to dress warmly. She came downstairs in jeans, a jersey, and a sweatshirt. Good so far. Then I look at her feet. She is wearing flipflops! :confused3

I decided to choose my battles a long time ago. I'm not going to say anything to her, but I will make sure I put a pair of socks and shoes in the trunk of my car. If she complains of freezing toes, I will make her suffer for a bit! :rotfl:

I see this all the time at the high school. How about where you live?

It is all Abercrombie & Fitch's fault. I always see their employees in flip flops. This past winter I was dropping a deposit off at the bank and the girl in front of me was dropping off A&F's. She had a white tank top, denim mini skirt, & flip flops on. We're talking a snowy winter day! She was skinny as a rail too, she had to have been freezing what little butt she had off. Brrr!

I see many of our students wearing shorts when it's beyond cold outside, but my school has banned flip-flops as part of its dress code. I have seen girls wearing sandals in the winter. I think their parents must not see them before they leave the house.

Ha ha! You have the same attitude as me. My husband will ask things like "aren't you going to make him wear a coat?" And I'm like - na, let him freeze, he'll learn.

My boys wear them to karate year round cause they're too lazy to deal with the taking off shoes thing.

DS18 has a friend that wears shorts and flip flops every day. Winter, Summer, snow, rain.

Its Abercrombie policy to make their employee's wear "spring and summer" clothing starting in like Feb. I think. I had a friend who worked there and she hated it.

In high school I would wear shoes to school and then change into flops once i got there. Now that I'm in college and i have to walk all day I don't wear them as often. i wish I could though, I love my flops.

I did the same thing to DD. :rotfl: We were going shopping on Sat and she came downstairs with sandals on. I told her to put some real shoes on because it was cool outside. She comes back with flip flop! :earseek: I took a deep breath and said lets go. As we were walking into the mall she has the nerve to say-- Mom, why did you let me wear flip flops, I'm cold :rotfl2: I told her she was informed that it was cool outside and she' old enough to live with her decisions.

Hee hee. My (almost) 4 year old LOVES to wear flip-flops and shorts around the house. He would wear them out too if I let him. I'm with you though. When he's that old, I'll let him do it. Most lessons are best learned through experience.

I know someone who wears flip flops year round. Just got some platform flip flops for her, and told her those could be her snow shoes. ;)

LOl, I had flipflops on yesterday too! :earseek: It was snowing, windy and cold here too. :earseek:

I just injured my toe, in the pool of all places! It's wrapped so that none of my shos would fit. So, I had to go out in socks and Tevas! It's really unpleassant, hopefully this will pass quickly. :rotfl:

My DD too...no matter what the weather, and this morning's wind chills were below zero, she wears her flip flops. I don't know how many pairs she's up to now, but as of last summer it was something like 58!! She's almost 19, she buys them all herself and is old enough to make the decision. She does own Timberland boots and several pairs of shoes and sneakers, and 3 pairs of UGG boots, she just prefers her flip flops.

I banned my DD from wearing shorts as of November 1. And I considered banning short sleeve shirts starting December 1, but like someone else said, I decided to pick my battles. But sure enough, after she got dressed this morning she came downstairs wearing sandals. Keep in mind it is 20 degrees here with a wind chill factor of about 0. And we are heading to the bus stop! But I made a quick mention to the affect..."You're not wearing those, are you??" and she got the hint. But I'm willing to bet the day the spring thaw begins she will start wanting to wear shorts and sandals!.....P

AAaaaahh, I remember the days of wanting to wear shorts because I looked better in them.

Today, bring on those big wool sweaters! :teeth:

My son is 16, wears the same thing everyday. Short sleeve t-shirt and this sweatshirt, no matter how cold it is outside. He doesn't even own a winter coat. Out grew the one he had and would not go shopping for a new one. Is this normal? Is it not cool to wear a winter coat? My daughter is 14 and she said the girls in school wear sandals in the winter. She thinks it is stupid because it is so cold out. She said she rather wait till it is warmer. I hate wearing shoes, i love wearing flip flops.........always said i need to move somewhere, where it is warm so I can wear them year round.

DD5 would wear flip flops every day if I let her. Hello ... we live in VT.

It's a good thing school doesn't allow them, or I would have a fight on my hands every morning.

I definitely agree about letting them figure out some things for themselves. Being cold for a little while isn't going to kill them, and they might just learn something.
