flip flops or crocs?
We were going to buy crocs for our trip but instead got the old navy flip flops for the kids ages 3 and 6. Do you think those are ok to wear. we live in AZ and live in Flip flops all year long. does the humidty cause challenges w/ flip flops. We are there 7 days july 7 - 14th.
let me know your experiences at the parks

It's an awful lot of walking for flip flops, IMO. I prefer to put more structured, comfy shoes on my 4yo DS when we go to Disney. Plus they come off so easily - they could easily lose one getting on or off a ride.

I wear flip flops at the park usually for the whole trip but I am not so sure how Old Navy flip flops would feel after a week. They have no structure to the them and after walking all that way, you may need some arch support. IMHO I would look at the Crocs flip flops because they have the arch support. I wear Olukai flip flops (the do not make children's) all around the park and I am fine. If you do go with the flip flops, I suggest getting some form of Body Glide and using it on the feet to prevent any blisters (only if the flip flops are brand new, once they break them in, they will be okay).

I personally don't like flip-flops for the parks, they are too easy to lose on rides, and if they have the thong for the toes, that can get uncomfy. And at least for my family, admittedly klutzs, it seems we are either walking out of them, or having the backs of our flip-flops stepped on. We do the parks alot and DS4 and myself usually go the Crocs route, but I know alot of folks find them ugly (okay, I admit it.....even I find them somewhat ugly, but they are far too comfy to let a little thing like that discourage me from wearing them). DH wears Birkenstocks with a backstrap, or sneakers if it is cool.

For my girls I would prefer Crocs or tennis shoes. We have annual passes to a theme park and when the girls wear flip flops they always end up causing problems. My 6 yr old constantly is losing one of her and has to stop to put it back on her foot. I prefer shoes w/backs when we're doing a lot of walking.

We're from San Diego, so like you, we wear flips all year round. If you ARE going to do flips all day, everyday (like we do at DL), then I recommend Reef. They are on the pricey side, but they will last forever and are very comfy. I still have my reefs from 7 years ago, and they look a little worn, but are so comfy!! They make kids sizes, so I'd go with them. But bring an extra pair in case they loose one!

have fun....

and yes, i think shoes would be way to hot and sweaty (especially in the humidity).

The problem with flip flops is that they easily come off when exiting rides. (Note: Even regular sandals can come off. DD lost one of her shoes exiting Buzz a year or so ago. CMs were unable to reclaim it for us.)

for myself I wore croc flip flops and was fine the entire time until my feet got wet on Kali River Rapids, then the blisters started. I wound up buying a pair of regular disney crocs and wearing those with socks the rest of the trip.

I wore my Reef flip flops on the first day (same Reefs I wear every where else) and my feet/legs/back were killing me. I switched to my Crocs and all was good. I would not wear cheap flip flops.

do you think regular shoes are too hot for there feet?

DS never complained, even in the September heat. I also wore shoes with socks for comfort/support and didn't feel like they made me too hot (well, we were all too hot but it was because it was hot there, not because of the shoes we chose).

When I was last at the world, they did not allow flip flops on Soarin'. You had to leave the flip flops on the floor and ride barefoot. I think because of the possibility of dropping off onto someone else's head.
I may be out of the fashion loop, but Teva sandals work well for my children and me.

where did you find disney crocs? can you buy them at DW? wanted to get some, did not find them at the disney store.

I got my older two kids their Disney Crocs at Academy Sports, but my youngest I had to buy on ebay. They are all over the parks for sale also if you want to wait to get them. I would recommend if you do that they wear socks with them until broken in.

I can't wear flip flops -- the thing between the toes makes me crazy! I did wear crocs though -- but I alternated them with my sneakers.

Althought it was hot (august) I didn't mind sneakers and socks. 1 tip though -- spray your feet with antipirspirent (Arrid XX dry) each morning before putting on your socks. It helps stop the sweating and prevents blisters.

I think we will wait and get them at disney! It will be a nice surprise when we get there.. I will make sure to pack socks. do you know where in disney? Downtown? We are staying at the poly. Or just any disney store inside the MK

They had them all over, in gift shops, in the little gift carts outside. I got mine at MouseGears in Epcot, they had a large selection.

I have about 15 pairs of flip flops, and the only ones I ever wear are black ones from Old Navy.

I'm not sure if it's because they're black, and all the hot Cedar Point days they've seen, but they are a perfect mold to my feet, and the most comfortable shoes I own.

Though I finally broke down and tried on some Croc's the other day, and I gotta say, they were like walking on air.
If I can get over the look of them, I might invest in a pair before we head down.
