Okay, I've read enough attire threads that I felt the need to add my two cents to the whole debate.

Personally, I think it's great that people try to be in line with the recommended attire for their cruise. Recommended attire, which is what all the main dining rooms subscribe to, is what the majority of people will be wearing, so if you dress similarly you will blend. I know some people throw down about not wanting to change out of their shorts, but dinner on a cruise ship is an event, not just a meal, and you should try to be respectful to the requests of the event host, in this case
DCL. Would you wear shorts to a black tie wedding? Of course not! I view dinner on a cruise ship the same way. That said, I don't think it's necessary to stress out about what to wear - as long as you have good intentions when planning your wardrobe, I can't imagine anyone would fault you. I know there are lots differing points of view on this, but that my story and I'm sticking to it!
