Hi,

So I am thinking ahead to next year :rolleyes1 and possibly planning a trip to HH. I priced out flights to HH from Chicago ORD and all I can say is :scared1: ! Are the flights always that expensive to that area, or is it due to gas prices? I bought my 2 flights for trips to WDW early this year and was able to get pretty good fairs less than $250 r/t each. I just priced HH for April and couldn't get anything under $430 r/t. These air prices are seriously going to curb my use of DVC.

Usually I'd recommend alternate airports, but, just in surfing around the prices I see for ORD to Hilton Head Island are cheaper than flights to Savannah or Charleston. Surprising. But you might check Jacksonville Fl. That's about $100 less, and isn't a bad drive.

From Charleston airport to getting on the island I'm guessing about 1 1/2 hours. From Columbia, SC you're looking at around 3 hours. I'm guessing from Jacksonville around 2 1/2 hours.

Flying into HHI has always been pricey. We checked it out two years ago and said "no way" we'll drive! Now we are a 12 hour doable drive away. I know I priced the Savannah airport and it was cheaper than the HHI airport but still more expansive than to fly into Orlando.

I'm guessing from Jacksonville around 2 1/2 hours.

I've driven to HH 3 times and I live on the southern end of Jacksonville and made it in just over 2 hours. The airport in Jacksonville is on the northern side of town and you could make it to HH is about 1 hr 45 mins.

Charleston is a very expensive airport to fly into, I would check Savannah. Sometimes the locals use savannah. You will need a car.

We drive from Chicago and make it our big summer family road trip. We love it!

Depending on where you live in the Chicago area, try Milwaukee. It is usually cheaper but you won't get a nonstop flight. We go every September on a golf trip (not to DVC) and we bought tickets from MKE- SAV for $190 for this Sept. United wants around $600 for theie nonstop flights.

Thanks for the options. I think any sort of driving is out because I just wouldn't feel safe seeing that it is just DS and I. I know that sounds strange, but that is how I feel. If I was going with other people, I would consider it as few hours drive to go into one of the other airports is not that bad. I might consider the Milwaukee option, but I am sure it costs a lot to park up there for say a week. Plus cost of gas to consider. I guess I just really didnt think it would cost so much to fly to HH seeing that it is closer than MCO.

Yeah... and the only non stop to SAV is United I think.

It's just s great place and worth the hassle to get there.

If you fly into SAV there are transporation companys that will take you to HH. You wouldn't need to rent a car and drive. However, I've heard that it is nice to have a car at HH.

Try MDW on Southwest to Jacksonville - we always do it from IND and it sure is better than connecting, plus I watch the prices go down - it has been the cheapest flight every year for us compared to our trips to WDW!
