Flights of Wonder closing

No more Bwana Joe that is a bummer. Loved that guy. Incidentally in England a "bird" is slang for an attractive woman. If you went to England you just might see "a bird riding a bicycle".

Over the years I've watched as the "Frasier Crane" joke makes sense to fewer people in the audience. I'm so old. Anyway, I think a refurb on this show is a good idea.

Just to keep things straight, it's "Guano Joe."
(The definition of "guano" is the inside joke of his nickname.)

And, yes, he's a great character.

So we will be at AK around 2:30PM on Dec 31. It says there is a 3:30 and 4:30 show. What is the process that gets you into the 4:30 show? Do they pass out tickets once the 3:30 show begins or does a line simply form? We did this once before the refurb and it was non issue but I imagine attempting to see the final show will be much more difficult at such a busy time.

There are no tickets issued for Flights of Wonder.
The audience is "walk-up."
The 3:30 show should end about 4:10-4:15.
We don't know what (if anything) "special" will happen in regard to the final show.

Stay tuned to the boards to see if someone finds out if there may be something
unique about the final show(s.)

It's a good show, but from what I gather, the script hasn't changed one iota since the beginning. It's been exactly the same, all three times I saw it (since 2012). Time for a revamp.

They say the same about Indiana Jones :rolleyes1 Though, rumors are a version might end up in the Dinoland area.

Oh, it changes an iota. You're right, overall, but I caught different things every time I went. We loved it and I really wanted my cousin to see it in January. Oh well, we'll get our laughs from a different show.

It’s not the “same old show” if you’ve never seen it.

Good scripts can run for decades.

Most (by far) guests have never even heard of this show, much less have actually seen it.
If it’s a good show, I don’t expect it to change.
I can go back and enjoy OTHERS reacting to the surprises that were once brand new to me, and that makes me happy all over again.

What’s the story on Nemo? Is it closed too?

It's closing temporarily from Feb 4-18 last time I looked. I saw something else that said it may not close until Feb 8, but when I went to make FP+ selections, there was a notice that Kali River Rapids and Finding Nemo were both unavailable. Not that the FP had run out, but just unavailable.

The first time they saw FOW, my kids thought that Guano Joe really was a lost tour guide afraid of birds. That was loads of fun. Obviously the 2nd time around they knew better. Yes, a good show can go many years, but for me it’s really nice to have something new to have that magical feeling of discovery. I liked the old show and will always remember my kids wondering how Joe lost his tour group but I look forward to the new show and new memories.

(PS: My DH hates my under developed sense of sentimentality too.)

NO!!! I'm so sad. I love that this show has nothing to do with any Disney story line. And I really don't like Russell and Dug as stand alone characters.

I'm going to miss seeing this one more time. I wish Disney had given more notice!!! I could have seen it a couple weeks ago! And I'm back in January - but that's too late!

It has changed though , the first version without Guana Joe or Jane didn't last as long and had Luke in it (& some like old guy) & not the corny jokes. And I think remembering now the very very first didn't even have Luke, it was just the birds/trainers at first, then they added him & a story.

This version though has really ran it's course for me at least, last April I found myself spacing out during it. I'm one looking forward to the change.

This makes me very sad. I did my CP here. If I could get back before the end of the year to see it once more, I totally would. I'm sure whatever is coming will be great.

Much as I loved the show, I'm anxious to see the new show. Does anyone know how long the stage will be "dark". that is, how long before the new show starts? We're going the week after AKs anniversary (the end of April) and I'd love to see the new show then.

I'm gonna miss the show, but I am really looking forward to the new one! Up is one of my all time favorite movies. I'm mostly just sad that I won't get to see any version of the show during my trip in January.
