So United has released their fares for Feb. 2023 and from BTV to MCO it is over 1,000 per person round trip. Might as well go to Europe! I'm hoping they will go down and that American has better rates. Is this the new norm? If so, we won't be able to afford to go next February.

Just keep watching. My experience with Delta is they come out SUPER high, then drop after a week or two. Look at prices for January 2023 and that might give you an idea of what to expect.

Thank you. I just checked January and they were more realistic. Phew!

JetBlue also released for February. I was hoping to book one way on points with JetBlue and then the return flight on Southwest points. Not going to happen right now- JB is $600-900 ONE WAY (Boston area to MCO)

Yeah JB prices are insane Bos to mco in Feb. I was
looking at Feb school vacation week, which is always high, but 800 one way is out of control. I ended up getting American with a layover for 155 each going down and United coming home for 283 each with a layover. I had points for American so that was “free”. Historically that Feb school vacation week is outrageously expensive anyway for flights, so the American and United flights were pretty decent prices for that week, but Jetblue was insanely high.

Yikes

I checked Delta for a round trip flight from Detroit for 5 people in the middle of February - $4686! Not happening.

If you have any flexibility try checking for dates not on a weekend. We went to New Orleans in February. Going down flights weren't too bad (we flew in on a Thursday) but trying to come back on a Sunday after our cruise the least expensive was JetBlue at $350/pp one way. We checked Monday and the exact same flight was $127/pp. We just stayed an extra night, enjoyed New Orleans for another day, and flew home on Monday.

Yes, we always try to fly Monday to Monday

If you want to roll the dice, book the cheapest flight within two days of when you actually want to fly. This far out (10 months?), Delta has a habit of nearly ALWAYS changing the schedule, and if you're already booked, they let you change to any flight +-2 days for the same price. I'm kinda thinking I'll book a Monday return to BOS from our Feb vacation cruise. I want to actually return Sat or Sun. The worst that will happen? We'll take the Monday flight and miss a day of school/work.

Every airline is really going through it now. I priced out a flight to Denver last night and even Frontier was coming up at nearly $600 RT.

Do you have that in writing somewhere? Here's Delta's "schedule change" policy: https://pro.delta.com/content/agenc...le-change-and-ticket-revalidation-policy.html

Some key areas:
To qualify for a complimentary change due to a schedule change, the schedule change has to meet one of the following guidelines:

  • A delay of 120 minutes or more
  • A change in the routing of a scheduled Delta flight which adds one or more stops to the original itinerary
  • A change in equipment from Delta Mainline to Delta Connection carrier
  • Any change that causes a misconnect
  • If a flight cancels and no comparable or acceptable routing is available within 120 minutes

Schedule Change Reaccommodation Guidelines for all other itineraries or for travel after April 30, 2022:

      • The new flights must be rebooked using the same origin and destination, the same class of service and the same date as the original ticket.

      • The ticket must be reissued as an even exchange and the customer must be contacted with the new flight information.

      • In addition, the PNR and ticket must be documented with Required Documentation as noted below.

      • If alternate space is not available as outlined above, travel professionals must contact Global Sales Support for assistance.
Delta did have a +/- ONE day policy, but that ends at the end of this month.

Eek. No one trust me on this!

I was basing my strategy on personal experience. I have a round trip flight booked for August and Delta changed the schedule. Their website allows me to switch to +-2 days. I assumed it was their policy!
