Dear Flyglobespan Subscriber,

Northern Ireland is to have its first scheduled service to Florida when rapidly-expanding airline flyglobespan launch a weekly flight from Belfast to Orlando Sanford in November with prices starting at only £149 per sector including taxes.

This will be the first Belfast route from the web-based airline which already operates from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Manchester, Aberdeen, Durham Tees Valley and London Stansted.

After building up a wide-ranging, short-haul programme to most of Europe’s traditional holiday resorts, the company have recently been moving into the long-haul market and introduced the UK’s first-ever direct daily budget flights to Florida with the launch of a daily Glasgow Orlando Sanford flight last month.

Later this year, they start a Manchester-Cape Town service. They will also be flying daily from Liverpool to New York (Newark) from next May and have promised more transatlantic activity in the near future.

The launch of the Belfast - Sanford flight is part of a much expanded programme as the airline continues to grow and increase its UK footprint.

The company will use an ultra modern Boeing 767 300 on the route offering three grades of travel. Prices in the Economy No Frills section will start from only £149 per sector including taxes. For Premier Economy prices begin at £209 per sector including taxes, while Business Class starts at £399 including taxes.

As with all their services, the flyglobespan website offers travellers flexibility of duration along with the option of adding a wide range of accommodation and car hire. The service commences on Tuesday, November 7 and all flights and accommodation offers are available on their website www.flyglobespan.com.

The new service will give Irish holidaymakers low cost and convenient access to one of the world’s top family holiday destinations.

The attraction of the Disney resorts and other family-friendly theme parks tempt more and more UK visitors to Florida each year. Now, for the first time, Irish tourists have the benefit of a scheduled service to the sunshine state – at fantastic prices.

Flyglobespan’s parent company the Globespan Group has been flying across the Atlantic to Canada for over 30 years and chairman Tom Dalrymple says that experience will be hugely beneficially in ensuring the company caters for all needs on their Belfast- Orlando service.

Florida is now such a significant part of the UK holiday market that we decided to fly daily from Glasgow this year. Response has been so good that we are committed to repeating that next summer and will also offer it during the winter on certain days.

That gives us the opportunity to run a Belfast flight once a week and test the flyglobespan model in a new market. If it works as well in Belfast as it has across the rest of the UK, then I am sure we will be back for more.

We know from our Canadian experience that holidays to North America are a different market – and passengers have different priorities.

Seat price is hugely important – and I am pleased we are able to keep our fares so low. But it is a long journey and some passengers are happy to pay extra for some added comfort which is why we will have three fare bands on the Florida flight.”

The Economy No Frills cabin accommodates 160 passengers with a minimum 30” seat pitch. A wide range of meals, snacks and refreshments will be offered for sale on board.

The Premier Economy cabin will offer 60 passengers a 34” seat pitch with complimentary meals, drinks and in-flight entertainment.

Business Class will offer 24 sleeper seats with 50” seat pitch and full individual in-flight entertainment, dedicated priority check-in and the use of an airport executive lounge. Champagne will be offered prior to departure and during the flight will enjoy gourmet meals served with fine wines.

“As well as low fares out to America, there is another benefit to the area,” says Dalrymple. “Our Glasgow –Orlando prices are proving very popular with Americans who want to come to Scotland and I am sure the Northern Ireland tourist board will benefit when the Belfast route begins.”

John Doran, Managing Director of Belfast International Airport, commented: “We are delighted to be developing a relationship with flyglobespan through the provision of this new non-stop service from Belfast to Florida.

“It is particularly noteworthy that this will be the first ever direct service from Belfast to Florida during the winter months, and our first direct scheduled service throughout the year.

“We aim to capitalise further upon our position as the airport with the longest runway along Ireland’s eastern seaboard in order to take advantage of business, leisure and family connections, while providing greater choice for travellers across the globe to and from the island of Ireland.”

That is fantastic news!

Thank you for posting this :thumbsup2

And we went and booked to go out of Dublin next June... oops. Might just have to see if theres a chance of another trip.... purely to try out the airline and feed back on it of course. :rotfl:

:confused3 weird flights aren't from Belfast they start in Glasgow and stop in Belfast. Looks like they picked Belfast to fill the planes up !!

I remember Airtours flights used to do the same thing, originating in Manchester and stopping off in Belfast to pick up. There were some terrible rows when Belfast passengers boarded to find their 'pre-booked' seats had already been taken by some less-than-scrupulous people!! After much 'consideration' I think I'll just stick with Virgin. Better the devil you know as they say! :thumbsup2

I will be sticking with Virgin too :thumbsup2 Although good to see some competition at BFS as currently we only have one operator on the Orlando route! :teeth:

Excellent news :thumbsup2

We've booked with Globespan for next year. Flying business class from Glasgow to Sanford. One flight instead of 3 to get to Orlando :)

Yib imagine waiting in the airport thinking you'll be first on and you've pre-booked booked seats, only to find the plane three quarters full and your family spilt up.

No thanks !!

It's absolutely down to personal choice though, isn't it.

If it saved me the hassle of having to get an extra flight to Gatwick I would take it like a shot. I'm not sure these days there is any more risk of being split from your family on this type of flight arrangement than with the likes of Virgin?

To be honest whenever I have seen this happen the staff have always managed to work it out with the passengers. If someone else wants my kids sat next to them for nine hours, then they are welcome :teeth:

Is that a direct flight? Which airline? I didn't think there were any more flights from Dublin to Orlando?

No its Dublin to Gatwick and Gatwick to MCO.

Brother in law just used the same flights going out for his honeymoon and was very impressed so we thought we'd try it out. Your luggage goes straight through and you don't need to check in again at Gatwick, both flights are with BA and you can select your seats online for the Gatwick to MCO flight. Fingers crossed it all works out.

Does anyone know what the planes/seats/service is like on Globespan? As they are a budget airline are they in the same league as TCD? Or are they budget but better??

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Lynn

Thanks. That sounds great. We're flying Shannon/NY/Orlando with Continental and I'm almost sure we can put our luggage straight through at Shannon too for the entire journey. Yay!! We'll have a 4 hour stopover at NY but that's an excuse to eat and shop at the airport so I'm not complaining, lol!

we went from Dublin / NY / Orlando in 2002 with Continental and I am nearly sure we had to pick our luggage up in NY for to go through customs or something like that
will ask DH if he can remember ,but I know it went right through from Orlando to Dublin on the way back

Thanks for the info on the Belfast flights
sounds a great deal :thumbsup2
any one any info on this airline

we love flying out of Belfast airport , Great Airport and the Holiday carpark is so handy
I seen us been driving out of the airport 30 minutes after landing from Orlando :thumbsup2

This could be another reason for us getting AP's again :cheer2:

Just checked some of the prices - they are OK rather than spectacular, the £149 seems to be one way. Just priced 2 of us in January for £650 (incl taxes fuel suircharges etc), but thats for budget economy - 30" seat & no meals. Premium economy was comparable with our Continental flights via New York.

Business class however priced at around £800 each which is pretty good !

Might even be worth considering a cheap flight to Belfast and the Globespan to Stanford :)
