There was a program on last night called "Should I worry about...flying" and one of the "worries" was DVT. They did a small experiment on a five hour flight, with one group of people doing foot exercises, one group of people wearing flight socks, and another group doing neither. The flight socks were the most effective method of helping with circulation. Sounds like they are worth the money.

Apparently they would be useful for any long trip - it isn't the altitude that's the problem, it's the sitting still.

What are flight socks. We're flying to Orlando but then we have a 12 hour flight to Sydney after and TVT is an obvious concern. Now I'm not the most active of people and sitting and relaxing, doing absolutely nothing is a dream come true but I don't want to get to Sydney with legs like balloons or be rushed to the nearest hospital. Are they very tight, to the knee or ankle. Really don't like wearing socks at the best of times but health comes first. Any suggestions?

Boots sell both the Scholl ones and their own brand, but they are pricey.

This site sells much cheaper ones, but only offers them by shoe size. Apparently, to be really effective, you should go by the measurents round your calves and ankles.

Takes me back to the days after having a baby and wearing those lovely sock things in hospital....

LOL! Oh they are the ultimate fashion accessory especially with a nightdress.

Actually, I thought I looked rather fetching on the way back from St Lucia with my big black flight socks and red shorts:eek: Couldn't understand why my family disowned me on the plane:hyper:

I can't recommend flight socks enough - I'm a larger lady and my ankles and feet have always swollen, but not any more with my flight socks. They even do them in "nude" colour now, but don't try the matching accessories:tongue:
