The nature of my work being freelance is quite flexible and I'd been planning a month in Florida next August with the family. It is now looking like a client might need me to be around over Summer on and off but I'd still be able to have a decent amount of time off.

What we would like to do is take the family for 2 months and I'd go home a couple of times over those two months to work then return to the family when I could. We want to move to Florida anyway so it would allow the family to get a real taste of living there as opposed to holidaying (to some degree anyway).

The question is, can I book all 4 of us on a two month return and then get individual economy cheap as chip indirect returns from Florida to Manchester as and when I need to come home to work? Will I get visa problems or run into security issues? We want to fly PE or Business when the family is flying together but I don't mind indirect and economy to go home to work hence the complication.

Sorry, it's an odd question.

I know that our friends who own a villa in florida and a buisness in uk do this all the time. They are over there now and the hubby will be back just after xmas to check on the buisness.
I believe the only stipulation for entering the usa is that you have a return flight home back to the usa so as long as you have proof of this return flight then all will be fine!
However I just text her and she said that they have never been asked to provide proof of the return flight !!

Hope that helps !

Thanks, was worried they might be suspicious and not like me leaving the family there.

The types of posts that we like to see on the DIS are those that everyone can participate in and benefit from. When a post is intended for an individual, it creates a problem and can be very awkward for both the person you're publicly contacting as well as others. Did you know that you can easily get in touch with almost anyone via the DIS Private Message system? Simply click on the name of the person and you should see a link for sending them a private message and/or email. If you come across a situation where the person has blocked these options, we're sorry, but you still can't use the boards to get in touch.

I understand your concerns Paul but on this occasion I felt as though the title was borderline (I assume other moderators feel same as none have edited) Yes the Title has my name in it but the question is also aimed at anyone to partipate so not a personal message.

Not quite sure why this has been resurrected with such an obtuse complaint but thanks for looking anyway!

Wayne is known as the king of flights so I definitely wanted his input to the thread if possible but the actual response I got was from another which was the desired result. I wanted Wayne to see it, especially as he runs his own business as I do but anyone with an opinion was welcome.

I'm a veteran of the internet with probably significantly more years of experience than most starting on bulletin boards and newsgroups where you rang a specific phone number for a specific board before the internet really existed as it does now. I know my netiquette thanks.

As an update rather than starting a flame war, it appears the client now doesn't care and would not object if I worked remotely from the villa so I'll probably go for 30 days straight and work the odd day while there. Now hoping Virgin prices come down below the ridiculous £1200 pp for PE.

What a bizzare post!!
I read it that as the "king of flights" Wayneg name was there but I wasnt put off answering as it said anyone was welcome to answer if they had any knowledge of benefit. Therefore it wasnt a personal message - more a question that was felt wayneg may have the knowledge to answer !!

London75 Im pleased to hear that things seem to have paned out better than expected and u wont be plane hopping after all :thumbsup2

Have a good trip

Hi London75,

Glad you managed to get everything sorted out :thumbsup2

We are going for 2 weeks at Easter and 4 weeks in Aug and on all our hols we take the laptop as we run our own business. Hubby spends an hour or two in the morning catching up with emails, talking to staff over any important issues etc I also catch up but not on a daily basis - it works really well for us and hope it will for you too :thumbsup2

Merry Xmas :santa:

I always end up working, it's hard not to especially when the kids have me up at 3 am for the first few days. In this economy it seems that being the person working for free on holiday is what keeps you in contracts. Sad but not something I'm prepared to stand up to.

i've crisscrossed flights as you describe - flying in on a ticket, then flying out and back on a different ticket, then flying back again on that first ticket..
that is - i flew into the US on july 1st on ticket A.
I flew out of the US on july 8th on ticket B.
I flew back into the US on july 15th on Ticket B
then i finally left the US on july 20th on ticket A.

I didn't have any problem doing the above..
however, i'm a US citizen, so maybe for that reason i didn't have any problems..

let's think about this a moment....

you're a Brit - so when you enter the US, your passport will be stamped.
However, when you leave the US, your passport will NOT be stamped.
when you come back again to the US, your passport will again be stamped (and of course the stupid picture and fingerprints will again be taken)....
i don't see why it makes a difference what plane ticket you're on. Do they check your plane ticket? the US doesn't record who leaves, only those who arrive. I have a british friend who flies into the US, every other week. Of course, he's flying on the same ticket in and out each time, but why should it make a difference?

none of that should be a problem. But if you're really worried about it, you can ask the US embassy their opinion.

Guess what Paulh is trying to say is that in the past other "Kings of Flights" have been pulled up on this by the mods quite severly and consequently have left the boards ........... which doesn't help anyone. :confused3

Think we're all grateful of Wayne's, Obi's (sorry slipped out) and everybody else who contributes infinite wisdom and advice ............. and long may it continue (come on Wayne I need a car hire deal!!!!!!!!!!!) ... to be honest I cant see the harm :goodvibes
