Flight prices from Edmonton are outrageous this year!

I think the only airline I've flown without entertainment was SW from Seattle.
Most of the American Airlines do have entertainment, either in back of seat or on the screens that drop down. You usually have to pay for earphones for the drop down screens, or swipe a credit card for the back of seat TVs.

We usually don't bother. I bring a book, and have music, movies & TV shows downloaded to my iPhone.
You could also bring a portable DVD player for the teens.

Hope you find a good fare soon. Are you signed up for fare alerts with WJ?

Hi Sue :goodvibes we flew United first and last time in 2008 for our first trip....no entertainment the whole 7.5 hours of travel! Both flights ( one originating in Edmonton and the connecting in Chicago) had no entertainment whatsoever , even no radio! It was horrible, we ended up renting our boys a DVD player at the Chicago airport that we could return at the Orlando airport. I am keeping my eye on a specific west jet flight, so if I see it drop, I will have to think about if it is worth the gamble to grab it at the first drop, or wait and see if it gets any lower.....I am tempted to just grab it if it gets close to $229 per leg!

We just moved from Winnipeg where we paid $300 roundtrip per person to fly. We flew from the states. We now live in Nova Scotia, I checked fares when we moved this summer and they were absolutely rediculous. We were trying to work our Christmas leave out to give enough driving time. Anyway I looked at 30-59 days away and the flights were much better. Look at great than 60 days and you might as well look 10 yrs away. That's what I found. I just booked on Saturday for Dec 17-27 from Halifax - Orlando on Continental Airlines. The total cost including taxes/roundtrip was $2170. I booked at 42 days ahead. Glad I did right now the flights are up to $3200 roundtrip. you are taking a chance but seriously just watch the pattern. I do and it works for me everytime. As for travel with Air Canada and Westjet they are about $3800 roundtrip. Sadly the Canadian airlines can't hold a candle to the US ones for price.

I totally understand! :( I wish we had an american airport close enough to utilize....but alas, we are stuck flying from Edmonton. I have kept an eye on the pattern ALL yr. and those flights rarely, if ever budged....I think we will get our best prices around Jan/FEB if they release a seat sale.....If I see them dipping towards $229 per leg...or a total of $1,800 or better for 3 tickets, I'll grab them because I have not seen them lower at all even as you get closer to the date! I am keeping my fingers crossed that my airfare doesn't cost me my arm AND my leg!!! :rotfl:

I know. It's nerve wracking to play the guessing game with the airlines. When I see a fare I can live with, I book it. Flying out of Seattle at least twice a year, I know pretty much what a good seat sale is to MCO. Then I stop checking cause I get too upset if it drops more  My Jan flight is $279 RT, seat sales fluctuate between $250 - $350 RT for us.
