We are attending DW in June. In an effort to save my family of 5 $240 on flights, I want to fly back (to Texas) out of MCO at 8pm instead of 12:40pm. Is staying later on our check out day worth saving the $240? Please let me know what you all think. Thank you.

I love late flights.

Pros: save the money and have a few extra hours of vacation! Cons: get home very late, without a room for 5-6 hours before your flight, if anything happens to delay or cancel your flight at that time you're probably stranded. We used to do later flights, but have moved to flying earlier in the day when possible - less chance of delays and issues (at least it seems better for us!). Good luck with your planning decision. Is it possible you might spend that $240 during your additional 5-6 hours at Disney (on food or last-minute souvenirs)?!!

Yeah the reasons you mentioned are what is holding me back from doing this. Also, its likely that we will spend double that in those 5-6 hours LOL. Just wanted to get some opinions. My kids are wanting to fly back later but they aren't paying for it. I don't know....i'm still 50/50

We, too, like the later flights. We always look forward to having a relaxing departure day at the resort and parks before leaving for the airport. So, there's no rush to get out of the room and we get those last several hours to take it all in.

Some things are a matter of personal preference and hard to quantify in dollars/cents. If you arrive home late on a Sunday (not sure what day you plan to travel) and have to get up early the next day for school/work, wouldn't be my optimal plan.

I don't care for late flights since if something is delayed or there is bad weather/mechanical issues, you may end up not departing that day if no other flights are available. I prefer to get home early and then have time to relax/sleep before getting up for work the next day. On departure day we like to get up/pack/eat breakfast/check-out and then head to the airport.

Do you want to do a Disney park and then travel in those same clothes without being able to shower/change? Once you check out of your room, you won't have anywhere else to go that day before going to the airport. Later remarks also make it sound like decision on when to fly isn't about saving money.

Pack your bags, hand them off to baggage storage, then enjoy your day. You do not need to go back to the room. Go to a park, grab a late breakfast, DS, head to the pool (yes, you can do that all day on your departure day) - whatever, the day will fly by. Don't forget to tip the baggage guys.

Keep in mind you have to be out of your room by 11am.
Maybe leave the luggage with bell services while you go out for the day

We fly back to Texas, too, and in the past we've usually taken a flight leaving around 3 or 4 PM. That allowed us to pack up, check the luggage with Bell Services, have a nice sit-down late breakfast or early lunch (10:30 or 11:00) near our resort, then leave for the airport around 12:30 or 1. And we'd get home early enough to have supper, unpack and go to bed around roughly normal time.

This past trip, airfare was much cheaper for us to take a flight leaving around 7 PM. We visited MK for a couple of hours, had a late lunch (1:30), then headed to the airport. We got to bed later than normal but were able to sleep in the next morning.

However, it's just two of us, no kids, and I know that makes a difference. The airfare difference is important too - is it $240 per person you'd save, or a total of $240? I think for $240 per person I'd take the later flight, but that assumes no one has to get up for work or school the very next morning.
