We're booking a trip for just my DH and I...four days, three nights for my 40th birthday. We're booking through Jet Blue. When I went on and noticed that the flight insurance is about $28 per ticket I'm wondering is it really worth it? We've always bought it and never used it. Once we had a problem with the flight but Jet Blue corrected it and I was told that insurance wouldn't kick in unless the flight was delayed 6 plus hours. I'm thinking on not doing it this time but on the fence and looking for thoughts...TIA!

We just booked our flights on Jetblue for August and bought the insurance. I really appreciate the piece of mind of knowing if something does happen to one of us, we will not have lost the $1250 we spent on airfare (5 of us, one being a senior citizen). Normally we only fly in cold/snowy months (we live in upstate NY) and it just made sense. This time it was a direct flight in the summer, but we still did it.

I fly to Orlando several times a year and have never bought (or needed the insurance). I figure the odds are with me and the money I've saved has bought more than one ticket for future trips.:rotfl:

I generally don't buy it when I take DD in the Fall, but DH just surprised me with a mini trip in 2 weeks and we added it, due to the possible snow issues in Va. Many years ago we went to Disney in January and were heading the airport and my mom called to tell us the airport was shut down due to a storm. Since this was a last minute surprise, we paid more for the airfare than I would have liked. The extra money for the insurance at least insures we won't loose all of it.

I don't understand this. If you had airline insurance only and your flight was cancelled because of weather, you would have been rebooked for free or gotten a refund without charge. Why did having insurance help?
