Flight of Passage is Scary...

Yikes. Now I’ll be scared to ride.
I don't think that you should be. Some number of people will be put off by any ride out there. I think it's fair to say that the vast number of reports on this ride are that it is exhilarating, not scary. Doesn't mean someone feeling the latter is illegitimate in any way -- just that it is NOT a common reaction to this ride. If you're really prone to motion sickness, perhaps take a bonine beforehand like my husband does. But scary? That is not a common report about this one.

Yeah, 65 and a fan. It is really a very gentle ride, I think. It's just that the illusions are so realistic and vivid. I can see it being scary to some depending on how their brain processes what they are seeing.

Don't think age has anything to do with whether you like it or not, though.

Yeah, age doesn't have anything to do with it.
I have been in line with/ridden several times with kids who were hesitant to ride and who's family coerced them in to riding. Many times, it did not end up well. Those kids usually ended up crying, sometimes screaming, by the end. To the point that on here, if someone asks I now advise that if you have a kid that is very hesitant, and you have not tried it yet yourself, don't push them too much until you see for yourself and can judge better if the ride would be ok. I don't understand myself why this ride is frightening but evidently it triggers things in some people, and it's not just a motion sickness thing. Because that I can understand, if you are bothered by that it makes sense to me

I love mission space and soarin altho I'm afraid of heights and buckle myself in lol
I do NOT do rollercoasters at all.
I love the star wars ride..

Do you think I would like it? Does the "bikes" come far off the floor?

Everyone loves different types of rides. I didn't think it was scary or too intense, but can see how some would not enjoy it or tolerate it.
There are those who love rollercoasters, spinning rides and many who donot.

I think you would enjoy it. the bike never "comes off the floor" Its just a single motion vehicle instead of and entire car. Your feet never touch the floor as you are seated on a "motorcycle" with a back brace behind you, your feet on a foot rest and pads that come in behind your legs.
Its sort of a mix of soaring and Star Tours.

First of all, you were lying about your age. You should still be carded when you go to a bar. :D

This is getting into a different topic, but I agree with you on bringing kids onto a new ride like FoP. I've made it clear before, including in this thread, that I've dragged my kids (specifically DD10) on rides kicking and screaming. However, very much to your point, I only did it after I had been on the ride myself and/or knew exactly what it was all about. For her, it was just drama because she's somewhat afraid of the unknown. I wouldn't bring her on something if I had no idea what it really was. I wouldn't bring a kid on FoP if they hadn't tried Soarin' or some other more gentle motion simulator first...if they were really scared, I'd even try the movie in Canada first.

......

I have seen sooo many posts where people liked it so much they were brought to tears. (some were rather admittedly old too!)
.....

Ahem....I may have been one of those brought to tears! :rolleyes1 In my defense, it was just so beautiful and amazing! One of my adult dd's got misty eyed too.

I went once and motion sickness was too much for me. Now I stand in line with the family just to spend time with them, but when we get to the front I leave. Worth doing the one time only for me.
Three of my family members get motion sick and all of them took Zofran before going on, just in case. After what we had to do to get the FP to begin with, they didn't want to miss it. All 6 of us loved it! The will gladly take an anti nausea med again to go on it.

I would say that FOP is closer to Star Tours with the fast moving scenes and the fact that the glasses/goggles keep you more immersed in the experience. With Soarin you're up high to begin with and, at least for me, I'm more aware of the people around me. The motions on Soarin are more gliding, FOP is more intense and you feel like you're going very fast at some parts, just like ST.

LOL... well, here in TN, they card everyone, no matter if you are 21 or 81. So, I am :)

Good idea about the movies in Epcot as a precursor to motion scenes

Really? Can I ask why? Soarin seems like the slower, kindler, gentler little cousin to FOP.
Two things, both listed here.
For me it really comes down to the fact that on Soarin' I get the really pronounced feeling of falling at several points, whereas with FOP it consistently feels like flying (even while swooping) if that makes sense. My guess is it comes down to the seating. FOP seating is very grounding.
First for me is the seating. I never feel like I am going to fall out of FOP. Soarin'? Not so much. It almost feels that they are preparing you for the leap of death.

And it does feel like I am flying on FOP, or at least what I think flying would feel like. Soarin', you are very obviously sitting and watching a show. Albeit a very nice show. For me it almost feels like I am in a lawn chair with balloons tied above me.

I understand what you are saying. One good thing about this attraction is I absolutely feel snugly into place, as opposed to say Space Mountain where many feel they could easily be flung out (I'm 6'2").

I'm only 5'6" and Space Mountain is my least favorite ride on property. I think it's a combo of the seating position and the darkness and not being prepared to brace yourself for the turns

JMO, nothing scary about it to me, but because of my severe astigmatism, only was able to ride it once - was sort of 'out of it' (spacey) for 30 min. or so.

So can I keep my glasses on to ride as I have pretty bad astigmatism as well?

I loved FOP... But I slammed my back hard against the back restraint during the fighting cattle/buffalo/whatever they were. Then I laughed out loud at myself.

I didn't hurt myself (hopefully you didn't either) but I closed my eyes and screamed!!! LMAO And then I also laughed out loud at myself.

I got very ill after riding the faster Mission Space back in 2011. Now, I am a little afraid that I will have the same problem on this ride. I will be a WDW this August and was looking forward to the new Pandora rides. Yikes!

Buy a pack of Dramamine at the park. It has 2 chewable tablets inside. Just eat ONE of them! (two makes me really drowsy) I have bad motion sickness in that even the bus from the resort to the park makes me feel sick. So I take one Dramamine as soon as I wake up and I keep the other to take after I eat lunch. I was just fine on FOP. Actually got to ride it twice and it's AMAZING! If you don't like meds then look for all natural Ginger gravol (not sure if its available in the states or not) and use that. :)

I'm only 5'3" and I end up scrunching down like a turtle on Space Mountain. But I also do this on BTMRR, there's just something about those overhead obstacles that freaks me out. :)

Speaking up as someone in the states--when I bought a couple varieties of things to help with motion sickness, I found ginger tablets sold under either the Dramamine or Bonine label (can't remember), marked as a "natural, non-drowsy formula." They were just plain ginger tablets. :p I brought both those and a pack of chewable Dramamine to bring on my cruise since I wasn't sure if I'd get seasick, and experimented with the ginger by itself first to see if I could avoid taking anything that might make me drowsy. It worked! I'd suggest that if anyone's unsure if ginger will work for them, maybe use it on the plane on the way to Florida?

Good suggestion. Yeah they are pretty much just ginger. Once you go "all natural" lol it just means no medicinal ingredients. It didn't work for me. But Dramamine does. I'm able to take the bus to the park without getting sick and if I only take one I don't get drowsy. If I take 2 I'm flying higher than a kite but I can do ALL the rides over and over! *lol* Just don't let me close my eyes! People mover and Dramamine is a dangerous combo! ;) I've also done 4 Disney Cruises and I take a Dramamine as soon as I wake up before I even move. And I'm good all day. I keep the 2nd one on me just in case. But other than the one rough sea day we had I never took more than 1 a day in the morning.

...But, please be warned...
It's a fair warning. My wife and I, in our young 50s did it. Once was enough. Though I loved the theming of the queue and the area, the ride itself wasn't my 'thing' as it is for many. I do have a fear of heights that I can usually talk myself through (like ToT) and on FoP I did close my eyes a few times, but when we got off my wife felt very disoriented and sick to her stomach, I felt a bit off but not as bad. I'm glad I did it, but i can't see myself doing it again. Unless they add a ride that is in between FoP and Na'vi River Journey as far as experience I can't see myself rushing back. Na'vi River Journey was just a bit to mellow to keep me going back.

That all said, I'm happy they have it as I know it's what some people want and I think variety is important.
