Hello!

We are landing at the Orlando Airport on our Continental flight at 10:30 pm. Have two questions:

1) Can we still take the Magical Express at this time?
2) Should we pick up our own bags since we are told they would arrive hours later?

TIA for any opinions. :cool1:

It's stated on the first page of the ME booklet you'll receive that if you arrive after 10 p.m. you will need to claim your own bags and take them with you on the ME bus to your resort.
And, yes, you will be able to take ME to the resort......ME actually operates on a 24 hour basis.......there may be far fewer buses during the late evening/early morning hours, but, they will provide transportation. Last year on one of my trips during the winter months my flight was delayed hours and I arrived around midnight......went to ME area and they did have transportation.......they put about 8 of us in a Mears van rather than a bus. However, the company which handles the luggage does not operate past 10 p.m..

Yes, you can take DME. Be sure to make your reservations though...you have to have reserved it in advance, you can't just walk up. DME runs 24/7, so no problem coming in later at night.
Now, the bags are a whole different story. The DME baggage handlers stop working at 10pm, so leave the tags off your checked bags and head to baggage claim and get them yourselves. If you did tag the bags, they wouldn't be picked up by DME handlers but put aside in an office until the next morning..then DME would get them and send them to the resort. Much better to get them yourself so you will have them for the night.

If my flight lands at 9:30pm - will ME still take my luggage that night? Would much rather not have to deal with it myself. Plan to pack my carry-on w/ necessities, so don't mind getting luggage delivered to resort late that night or even the next morning. Anyone ever have a similar scenario?

Thanks for any help!

See above. Yes you can use the yellow tags as long as your plane isn't delayed. If you end up landing after 10, then go to baggage claim to get your luggage.

If you use the yellow tags and your flight arrives after 10 PM (for example is delayed) you would still claim your bags at the carousels yourself.

Whatever is not claimed in a reasonable length of time should be put in storage for the night, and around 6 AM or so the yellow tagged bags should be collected and delivered to the resorts.

We are arriving by midnight, is there a problem in taking a taxi instead using the ME?? Will be faster to get to the resort from the airport??

Yes. A taxi will be faster. Your taxi departs from the airport when you want to depart. And a taxi goes nonstop from the airport to your resort.

DME loads guests going to several resorts onto the same motorcoach. DME doesn't wait until the motorcoach is full, but chances are you won't be dispatched immediately. Then you might be the first stop, but you could stop at 1, 2, or 3 other resorts before your resort.

The question is whether the time saved is worth the cost of a taxi, which is likely to be around $60-$75 one-way with a tip. There is no charge for DME (except that it's customary to tip the driver if he or she handles your bags).

I used ME once (a while ago) when landing at 11pm. They actually sent a regular Mears bus at that time. I was SO thankful for the video-free ride!

No problems in taking a taxi, just remember to get your luggage before you leave the airport. :)

And if you are really unlucky like us, your resort will be the 4th stop of the night.:headache: Touched down at 11pm, was standing at resort check in at 1am. Not fun.
