I am renting a car either way - We are staying off site.

Are there rental deals to be had at Tampa airport?

I had orginally planned to (probably) rent a standard size from Alamo at MCO ( I was told they give you a full size when you rent standard)

Am I going to find good prices ( best educated guess of course) on car rentals from Tampa?

I can't check yet the trip is not till Sept so prices are high both places.

While rentals at either airport are more than offsite they are typically comparable, in most cases in florida you could fly into TPA adn out of MCO and not pay a drop off fee

Last October, we flew into MCO and my parents flew into Tampa. I initially had a difficult time finding them a good car rental rate. The last 2 weeks I finally got them a good car rental rate. Took some patience and nail biting, but it worked out in the end. Got them a full size 9 day rental for around $200. Good luck!

We just did this for our trip last week and I must say the car rates at TPA are good. We got a mid size for a week and paid $85 with Alamo. I booked the car two weeks before our trip. I priced the same car at Orlando and it was running close to $200.

BTW I must say I like TPA better than MCO. TPA is a much more relaxing airport. It was not crowded at all. Security was a breeze. And the travel from TPA to WDW was so easy. One hour and 20 minutes.

We flying into TPA in May and renting a car. I found a Standard SUV for $245 with fees. I also have a Costco code to take $35 off so total it will be around $210. I am always on the look out for a better rate, but I can definitely live with what I got.

Rental rates in Tampa are similar to Orlando. No-drop fees in Florida used to be a rule. Ancient history. Occasionally you'll find a drop fee. Sometimes you'll find a rate code you want to us use won't work with a one way rental.

There is no substitute for checking prices. Use sites like autoslash and carrentals.com

They only give you a full size car when you rent a standard at places that do not have a standard row. I am not sure if Tampa has one or not. There are generally no drop off fees but, often the price of picking up in one place and dropping off in another will show a higher rate than if you did a round trip with the vehicle.

We decided to fly into Tampa for our cruise as it's a lot cheaper than flying into Orlando (by almost half!) We found that the car rental rate is actually a few dollars less.

From my research Dollar and Thrifty have the one way drop fees. We got a code for Avis and there's no drop fee.
