Well, I shouldn't even think of myself, so let me start by saying let's all pray that this Hurricane Frances doesn't hit Florida - or cause any destruction any where - hope it blows out to sea or turns into a tropical depression.

We are to leave Sat from Philadelphia to Orlando for 2 weeks. YIKES - I suppose if WDW is still standing I will get there somehow.

Since I don't have trip insurance, does anyone know if I will lose my money if the airlines can't fly into Orlando? See my itinerary below - 2 days as AKL, 5 at VWL, 2 at POR, 5 at BCV and 1 at CBR - all pre paid - I rented points for my villa vacations from the DVC owner - so I know that is gone, but what about the AKL?

Not that I really care - I just want to go on vacation - hurricane and all - want to get out of PA, away from my job, and get a chance to use all of my "stuff" I bought from reading these boards for tips - Merrell shoes, bodyglide, brita water bottles, etc, etc. Love to read the messages.

Wish me luck!

If flights are grounded/airport closed due to weather you shouldnt lose anything. Of course some airlines may have different policies. I would check online and start calling the airline just to confirm that the flight is still scheduled by Friday (or sooner if the storm comes in sooner). Be sure to talk to live people! You could always call now and ask them what would happen if things did come to a halt. Maybe you could change your rsvps now just to be safe. Dont forget if you do to change things at WDW (you might want to call them too to find out what their policies are in regards to this situation). I hope FL (and everyone else for that matter) gets through this one ok. Im in SC and weve been eyeing this one as well as it could come right up to us in the middle of the state. My dad is down on Hilton Head which could also be a target.

Hey bsusanmb

Wow...just like u...me and wife are suppose to fly out from Philly to Orlando this Saturday morning, yes....I am nervous now....really hope the hurricane will not affect my vacation....

We are going there for a week....here is our plan

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=636553

Let me know if u have plan to make changes to ur plan to orlando.

All the best

Let me just say this.....do NOT go TOWARD the hurricane!!

I live in New Orleans, and we evacuate and board up our home when a hurricane is a Category 2! Frances is a Category 4, and may become a Category 5. (The highest is a Category 5--CATASTROPHIC...)

I am planning on going to Orlando on Sept. 12th, but if I was supposed to be leaving THIS Saturday, I would make plans NOW to postpone my trip. You DO NOT want to take any chances. Even if the airlines WILL fly you into Orlando, you may not want to go. Hurricanes can change their course at the drop of a hat, and you do not want to put yourself or your family in danger.

Just pray for Frances to fall apart.....

I called Song Airlines to confirm my trip for Friday and was told by a customer service rep that even though they are still flying Friday, (early flights only) they might cancell all the flights for Saturday and that to be on the safe side to rebook my flights for Sunday. He also told me that "IF" there is no problems or hurricane (hopefully) I could change back to an early or original day with no penalties or extra money because this is due to the weather.
So... if you are going to change flights do so early because a lot of people are doing the same(holiday) and you will not get a flight until Monday or Tuesday.

I don't think you will see many flights coming to Florida on Sat. or Sun. The airlines don't want their planes in a hurricane area so they probably won't fly them here.

Stay safe and plan another time to come to Orlando.

I was on the phone (again!!!) with a rep from Song Airlines and they told me that everything is still the same no cancelations as of now, but if the flights are cancel because of the weather they will refund the money back, but if I decided to cancel then they will give me a 30 days use for my tickets with no penalties. I was told to wait till Sunday and then decide on what to do.(???????)

Contact the person from whom you rented the points. DVC is letting us cancel reservations without penalty, meaning for a DVC owner all points are returned into your regular use year and not into a holding account.

Someone just posted on the themes thread that MCO would be closing today (Fri) around noon.

We were sched to ck in at 3 today . . . I called and resched for next week. Trust me, I lived thru Hurricane Frederick in '79 in Mobile, you don't want to be anywhere close to Frances. And, as bad as the actual hurricane is, the after effects are even worse. We had two solid weeks with no power . . . however we were at dead in the eye of that one. I'm only hoping we resched our trip far enough out that any damage will be repaired . . . also read some of the postings on the community board about being in S FL during Charley . . . one vacationer said they had no food . . . it was like being in a 3rd world county. My best advice is resched, even if it costs you some $, even if you have to postpone for months. You can replace a vacation, you can't replace you!! Aside from any selfish feelings about my vacation, my prayers are with all of South FL right now.

YOu asked about AKL. I think you should delay your trip a couple days at least. If AKL is your 1st stop, cancel AKL because it sounds like from the hurricane recording that WDW is allowing you to cancel w/o penalty any reservations arriving by 9/6, I think. Call an check it out.
Be safe.

I'm in Ft. Lauderdale and sitting in my completely shuttered house. The airports are closed. WDW has closed all parks tonight and all day Saturday. They will announce Sunday's plans tomorrow. They announced that they will give complete refunds to anyone. Right now Frances has slowed down to "only" 105 mph (category 2) and is moving at 4 mph. They think it might move back up to a category 3 by the time it makes landfall tomorrow at 2pm.
It's nuts down here. No gas. No bottled water. no cars on the streets. People are edgy because we have been waiting so long. The storm is moving at a snail's pace. Some areas have already lost electricity from the first "feeder bands"

Keep your fingers crossed that Frances loses it's punch and just keeps downgrading.
