Flight deals for Thanksgiving weekend?

Hi all,

We are planning to fly down to MCO from PIT on Thanksgiving day to return on Monday. Should I even bother to check for sales? Does this weekend ever go on sale? Is one airline better than the others for holiday travel prices?

Thanks.

I purchased tickets for Thanksgiving week 2 months ago, I monitor the flights weekly and the rates have been steadily going UP, I'm glad I purchased a while ago. I think on the holiday weekends you need to book EARLY for the best rates and availability.

This is just what I noticed last year...I have no idea what airlines are going to do this year, but since I knew what my dates were going to be in 2005, I was really anxious to see what the trend was for Thanksgiving weekend 2004. I started researching it the previous summer, and the airlines I checked were for Delta, Song, and SW.
I noticed that on Thanksgiving Day and the day after, the prices were really cheap! (even up to a few months before!) But the day before Thanksgiving and Saturday and Sunday the prices skyrocketed up. Maybe people dont travel as much on Thanksgiving day and Friday because they are with family and the weekend is right after...who knows, but that is what I noticed, and we will be flying on Thanksgiving day.

We have tickets on Airtran for Oct 4-10 and they were $79 one way from PIT-MCO. We ended up paying $707 for 4 RT tickets. I don't know if they will go down for your dates because of the holiday.

I'm in the same situation and did the exact same thing, but just checking SW. I agree with the comments of flying Thanksgiving Day or the day after. Another source I used was Southwest's blacked out days for using Rapid Reward Award tickets, which we will be doing for part of our group. The blackout dates include Monday after Thanksgiving, so we're returning on that Tuesday.
