Flight Changes

:wave2: We just received our 26 Sep docs. Unfortunately, I didn't realize we would need to leave our home at 2am with 3 small children to reach the airport for our 6:40 am flight.

Although the children will sleep DH and I won't and will be very beat once we get to the ship. I am now thinking we should have gone to FL the day before. Has anyone who had their flights arranged by DCL ever changed their itinerary? Any suggestions as to where we should stay in FL if I get the change?

We are not experienced travelers, but I sure am learning alot about travel on this site!

Thanks in advance for any info.

Diana: I'm not experienced either. How far are you away from the airport? Could you get a room close to the airport? I know it's more money, but it might cut the time. We, also have 3 children, so I know where you're coming from.

I believe you have to pay a charge to be able to change your flight and personalize it and now that you are so close and the flights have already been chosen you would need to pay an airline change charge as well. It may end up being very expensive to do so. I would call your TA or DCL, whereever you booked your cruise to see what can be done. The suggestion above sounds good about staying near your home airport.

If you go down the day before use priceline, you can get an airport hotel for around $35.00. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses and suggestions.

Changing flights sounds like too much of a hassle and expense, so I will be spending the morning working on a hotel close to the airport.

Being tired was not a big issue when DH and I were younger (not that we are old)! We are taking our grandchildren that we love dearly and can't wait to share their first plane and boat trip with them.

Again, thanks for the help! I guess I am just reacting to nerves.

Hi Diana,

Just a little note of encouragement. We're doing a land/sea. We always choose flights between 6:30-7:00 am. I love getting into Orlando before 11 am. You will be at the port bright and early and can hopefully relax as soon as your stateroom is open.

Have fun!

You might try priceline for a motel room close to your airport. The site www.biddingfortravel.com has lots of info re priceline bidding. We stay away from the really low places, but have always been happy with our rooms, and usually end up paying about $35 for a 3* room! Can't beat the price. Technically, Priceline rooms are for 2 people, but since most places have a "kids stay free" policy, it isn't a problem.

:D Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement and information.

After talking to my DH, we are going to stay overnight at a hotel near the airport.

You could try going 'standby' the day before. That wouldn't cost you anything.

I'd call the airline the day the night before and see how booked the various flights are. They'll give you a fair assessment. If you go at some off-hour there should be five seats available.

Then you can reserve a hotel at Orlando and you're set. If you go to your home airport and can't get a standby flight, you can spend the night at a hotel near your airport and catch the 6:40 am that you have tickets for.

Good luck.

RJake1- if she has booked her air with DCL she can't change her flight reservations to go stand by. Plus, she is traveling with 3 children.

Diana, in my opinion, not that it matters, your doing the right thing by staying at a hotel close to your airport. I hope you have a great flight and wonderful cruise with your grandchildren.
