Hi Everyone,

Just came back from a very stressful day at the airport.

We booked with USair, which was operated by United Airlines leaving from Newark NJ.

Our flight was to leave at 3 PM with a quick stop in IAD(Washington DC) arrive in MCO at 7 PM at 3 PM our gate agent said all the flight is canceled, due to mechanical problems. The gate agents really weren't friendly I was very suprised. I felt so sorry for some of the people, there was maid of honor trying to arrive for the wedding tomorrow, a priest trying to catch a European flight, plus many more.

OK, No flights at all till Monday morning (no direct flights at all) We took what we could get for Monday. I went thru security, and found another United agent. This one really worked hard trying to find us a flight. He found one, leaving 1:30 PM tomorrow & arriving at 9:30 PM Orlando. Thrifty is holding my car reservations till tomorrow, and hotel worked out too.

We are flying out of LGA to Cleveland, to Charlotte & arriving in Orlando. I came home, & saw other flights on the internet, I have been on the phone, with USair since 6 PM. Every agent puts me on hold for at least 30 minutes & then we get discontected. It is frustrating, since It is now close to 8 PM, & the flights I saw on the internet are now sold out.

Please wish us luck that we arrive tomorrow.

Patricia

:grouphug: So sorry for your delay! Hope the rest of the trip is so magical that it makes up for it!

Thanks everyone for your support and, letting me vent, it's been a long day, & it could have been a whole lot worse.

I am just praying that everything goes along smoothly with all of these stops tomorrow.

Patricia

you deserve a wondeful trip! i hope it all works out :goodvibes

Hope it nall goes well tommorrow!

Everyone when traveling should carry the 800 number for their airline. That way if something comes up you can immediately get on the phone and start making changes.

In September of 1999 Andy asked me to marry him. That December we were going to WDW. That’s where we officially got engaged. We decided to look into getting married there. We had another vacation planned in May of 2000 so decided that would be a good time so we checked it out and it wasn’t as expensive as we thought – not at all. So, we decided on an intimate wedding and invited close family. It was wonderful. Just what we both wanted.
THE STORY:
My husband and I were going to be married May 19, 2000 in Walt Disney World. Everything was set - it was a combination Wedding/Honeymoon/Vacation. My brother (Ed) and sister-in-law (Ellen) and niece (Nicole) were all part of the intimate wedding ceremony - best man, matron of honor and Nicole was going to do some readings as she was too old to be a flower girl. My mother would be coming down to Florida with my brother and his family.
Andy and I arrived on the Sunday before our wedding (which was on a Friday at 5:00 pm). Prior to Friday, a friend of ours, Anita arrived and my Aunt Aggie arrived. The night before our wedding the 4 of us ventured over to Downtown Disney for dinner and came back to the Polynesian (where Anita and my Aunt and Mom were staying). Anita went to her room and Aunt Aggie and Andy and I sat downstairs having coffee and talking. At some point Andy and I went back to our resort - Old Key West.
Ed, Ellen, Nicole and my mother were taking a flight down to Orlando on the Thursday evening. Well, they thought they were anyway . . . here’s where the adventure begins . . .
So, we get back to our room Thursday night and there’s a phone message from Ellen. :scared:
What happened was this: There were horrible thunder storms on the upper east coast. They get to the airport on Thursday evening and all flights are cancelled. Uh Oh!. So, they see if there are any early morning flights – Nope – all booked. So, Ed asks them to check – are there any flights out of Kennedy? Nope; LaGuardia? Nope; Philadelphia? Nope. Okay, how about DC? Hmmm – we can get you on a 6am/7am flight out of DC. Ed says – okay we’ll take it. So, they have to take a cab back to Bloomfield and they get in Ed’s 4x4 – now they have to drive to DC. in the pouring rain – thunderstorms – ugh!!! Ed’s been up since 5am. So, Ed’s driving and Ellen’s yacking to be sure he stays awake. We’re down in WDW not really being able to sleep cause we’re worried about them. They promise to call in the morning. They finally get to DC and board the plane. But, you see, it’s not a direct flight; they now have to fly to Atlanta (of course the stairs brake so they have to climb down like a ladder or something like that); now they fly from Atlanta to Tampa (nothing to Orlando). As they are landing in Tampa they see all these horrible fires – apparently there’s a big warehouse fire happening. So, they land and get a rental car and get a map as they have never flown into Tampa before. After they head out they now realize that part of the highway is closed due to those fires they saw. Now they have to find a way around the fires. Ugh!!! :sad2:
The plan for Friday, May 19th - our wedding day was: The guy who was going to steam my gown was going to go over to my brother’s room to steam Ellen’s gown & Nicole’s gown. Ellen and Nicole had hair appointments at 1:00 pm on Friday at the Contemporary Salon.
Finally, I suppose it was around noon – they get to Disney. Ellen & Nicole get showered and head over to get their hair done. Ed calls me from the room and asks me to call to wake him in a couple of hours. Then he calls back and says he better not go to sleep – he may not wake up. We get to the Polynesian at 4:45 and they are there and all was fine – whew!!! What an ordeal they went through to get to our wedding. My brother said he was going to get to his sister’s wedding no matter what it took.
The wedding went well, we had a wonderful dinner, although afterwards when we were sitting in the lobby of the Grand Floridian my brother could hardly keep his eyes open as he was up over 24 hours at that point. A good time was had by all and they stayed til Monday and we had fun in the parks together.:cool1:
Just as a quick aside, they had to go back the way they came cause Ed’s car was in D.C.

OK - That is a crazy story. They probably would have done better driving all the way!

:confused3 what is going on lately with airlines cancelling flights

Just listened to the news and the poor people out of JFK taking Jet Blue are still stranded.

I can understand one day due to the weather on valentines day but geeesh 3 days later.

we are so at their mercy anymore.

and we don't even get fed:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

The planes are filled to capacity in most cases. If one is canceled, then there are no seats available on other flights to transfer to.
