Flexibility of dining credits on Dining Plan?

My family of 7 has two room at CSR with FD in September. My friend's family of 5 with APs will be joining us at CSR and I will add their daughter to my room so they only have to get one room--they will be getting a RO reservation. The daughter will have to get the same 10 day pass with FD, etc. to be added to my room. Here is my question: Can she use her 10 TS credits for her family instead of just her? For example: If we all go out to eat, can she use her credits for the five in her family two times to use up her credits ( even though her family is on a RO reservation?). In the past, I know that was no problem but tabs weren't kept as tightly. I know that if you desired, you could use every credit the first day if you so desired. Now, with all the Magic Bands, and all the reservations being tied to everything, I am not sure that is able to be done. So, my seven and their five go to eat together at Teppan Edo. When we go to pay, they will see that we are paying with 12 TS credits when there are only 8 credits "supposed to be used" for the two rooms that are tied to those bands. Is this question making sense?

No you won't be able to do that. The servers can tell how many are on the dining plan and they won't let more meal credits be used than people on the dining plan. That is one of the big rules of the plan, you can't use your credits for those not on your plan.

The dining plan doesn't work that way. While you could use up all your TS credits in one day, there is a limit on how many you can use at one sitting. At TS restaurants you cannot order more adult and kids meals than the number of adults and kids that are on the plan. Looking at your sig, you have 5 adults and 2 kids in your family plus the additional person from your friend's family. Depending on her age you 'll only be able to use 5 adult and 3 kids (or 6 adult and 2 kids) credits per meal.

Also, the dining plan rules state that she cannot use her credits to pay for meals for anyone not on the plan. From the dining plan brochure:
You may not redeem meals or snacks for any Guests who are not on your Disney Dining Plan.

As the others have said, while credits can be used in any way (i.e., several on one day), they cannot be used for others not on the plan. This is not new to the magic bands. We have done the DDP several times since 2006 and it has always been stipulated that credits are only for use by those on the plan and cannot be used by others that are not on the plan.

Do note that it's no problem at all to mix the use of credits for the dining plan people and OOP for the other, non-dining plan diners, though. Just specify to your server and they will charge appropriately.

Don't know if you are aware but if your friend's dd already has an AP she does not need to get a 10 day pass with FD just to be in your room. You have to add her on to your room at check-in and as long as you are not exceeding room occupancy limit (which you are not) people added on at this time are not required to be on the same package. I am almost certain of this. Have a great trip!:)

Ooooh! I hope this is true. That would allow her to have EMH as well as her MB being able to be used to open up the room. She will still only be able to get FP 30 days out with the rest of us getting 60 days, but having the above is much better that nothing and not wasting the $470 to have her get a ticket that she does not need or cannot use all the benefit.

But she won't have free dining, either. And she won't be able to use the Magical Express if you're flying in.

As another avenue, she could be on the reservation in advance and get free dining without a 10 day ticket. The minimum requirement is that everyone in the room has a 2 day ticket. So you could do that, upgrade everyone else's and she could use her 2 day ticket on some future trip to upgrade her AP or renew her AP.

Or save the 10 day day ticket to renew her AP.

So she can credit the $470 to her next AP??

Yes she can. BUT, if depends....

If she uses the 10-day ticket on this trip, she has 14 days in which she can apply the ticket to the AP renewal or the 10-day ticket will be expired and unusable. At the same time, her AP renewal can only be done within 60 days before AP expiration or 30 days after. If the AP renewal date isn't until past 60 days after your trip, application of the 10-day ticket to the AP upgrade can't be done during your stay.

Alternately, she can use her existing AP for this trip, and you can have Concierge put the 10-day ticket, unused, onto a separate plastic media card to take home. When AP renewal time comes up, the 10-day ticket can be applied toward the renewal but only if done in person at WDW, within the 60/30 day window. In a general sense, if it's an adult 10-day ticket, anyone can use the ticket later, either towards a new AP, an AP renewal, or for 10 entries into a theme park within 14 days from first entry. The unused ticket isn't assigned to anyone, it can be sold, and it won't expire until 14 days after being used for the first time. These details can be tricky, I know.
