I was just reading the replies to the question about the DC and someone posted a reply which stated that when figured out "free" flex features actually cost about $90. each. Could someone plase explain how so? We just purchased the Resort Magic Package which comes with choice of one flex feature and wonder if we are getting ripped off. I have never tried to book a trip on my own, have always gone through a travel agency. I guess I get nervous that I don't really know the "tricks of the trade" and will make some costly mistakes but after reading this I may reconsider next time!

Try to cancell to package and book on your own. Most of the package you are paying for you will not use. For me i would not use the golf and stuff like that. These add a considerable amount to the package. Book a hotel on your own and try to use a code. Check fareagent.com for the plane and buy your own park pass hoppers or anual passes(they can be cheaper then you realize.) You can save more than half doing this. If you cant cancell remember this for next time. But in any case you are gonna have a great time. Enjoy it. Theres nothing like disney(at any price.

Hoohoo im going again in may. I cant wait.

Thanks everyone and have a magical day.

Don't worry about it! Resort Magic only has one flex feature per person for the stay, right? It's basically your hotel plus the passes. The Discovery magic package has two flex features per person per day, so this is where you can really end up paying a lot more.

Where are you staying, for how long & when? You are probably paying the full rack rate right now, but depending on when you are going, it may not make a huge difference.

Still, it would be worth it to check out the codes on the site listed at the top of the resorts board. It's right above where the list of posts start. says Click Here. Or email me if you can't find it.

You'll have a great time either way! :)

To figure out the cost of flex features, get the best rate you can find for the room only, add in the cost of hopper passes (which never expire, something to consider) and subtract that from the cost of the package.

It really depends on how deep of a discount you get on room only.

for example, I had originally priced PO for $895 for 7 nights. The resort magic package for the same time, with DC discount was $1668. So we would be paying $1668-895 or $773 for the passes and 2 flex features (only 2 in our party). The cost of the flex features is that 773 minus 617 for two day park hoppers at the DC rate, or 156.

So if I did all the math right, the flex features are $78 each.

And if I had been able to get $89 per night at PO, as some have, instead of $114, it would have been even more of a difference.

There is one other thing to consider in my example. DC members get 50 disney dollars with each resort magic package. That would make the flex features cost about $50 each.

Does that make sense? :)

I am a novice at this but would like to learn for the next trip. We have alraady given a $200 deposit for our trip to WDW for 12/26-01/02/02. I guess this is THE MOST EXPENSIVE time of year to travel to WDW but it was the only time, other than spring break, that we could manage. We are paying for Resort Magic Package: $3,039.60 for RT airfare for 3/coach from Boston, 7 nights for 3 adults at ASMu, RT Mears Transportation (but I am goint to book TTC instead), Ultimate Park Hopper Passes LOS, travel insurance. Considering the time of year, is his really a bad price??? How could I have done better?
Thanks,

here is my 2 cents...I think the LOS pass is too expensive in most situations.
Heres why...its good from the minute you checkin to checkout..right...so...if you are flying in as we always do...you don't go to the parks on your first and last day..usually...so thats 2 days your paying for.
but if you can squeeze parks in on those days then its worth it.

now we have ap's...so we go as soon as we get there. ;)

I can't say if that's a bad price because I've never stayed at an All Star nor do I go around Christmas.

I can say that there are several ways to get discounts and that the three most popular ways tend to be AAA, Disney Club (or whatever it's called now) and Annual Passes.

When I made my reservation for May, I was able to get a 10% discount with AAA ($190) but I get a 40% discount with an Annual Pass. What's that? You don't have an AP? Neither do I but saving $750 more than covers the extra $50 the AP costs over a Park Hopper Pass.

Many people like packages because they don't have to put everything together and possibly forget something. IMO, there isn't much to forget.

1) How are you going to get to Orlando?
2) How will you get into the parks?
3) Where will you stay?
4) How will you get to your hotel and to the parks?

To me, planning is half the fun. Saving money is just a bonus.

BTW, if I booked a Resort Magic plan for my May trip instead of doing it myself, it would cost $800 more than I'm currently paying. If you like spending that much on a package, that's fine but it's not something I like to do.

Figment,

That is a difficult time of year! I just checked availability and there is none for your dates of stay. I think that your resercation is a little high for the All Stars for 3 people for 1 week. It's a known fact that "booking yourself" saves money over packages. Keep your current reservations and continue to check for a better deal from time to time. Things usually open up closer to NYE.

BTW: NYE at WDW rocks! We'll be there this year at BWV :).
