Hey Everyone :) : I have been talking to my sis who is a nurse and she has suggested I get more FIBER in my diet. I have issues with a real bloating stomach from time to time and I know it is directly related to me not getting the proper amount of Fiber. I wonder if anyone out there has tried "ground flaxseed"! Sis suggested I purchase it and put it on yogurt...okay but I don't eat yogurt everyday....I am looking for ideas on how to ADD Flax to my diet! Also, has anyone tried it and found it does aide in the Fiber issues you may be having....??? Bottomline: I need to get more "regular" !! (If you know what I mean)!!!! :goodvibes

TIA!!! :thanks: :thanks:

Flax seed...lowered my cholesterol level. We add it to oatmeal or our breakfast cereal (it usually works best with oatmeal and/or a cereal similar to Special K).

My favorite to use flax is in pumpkin muffins.

1 box unprepared cake mix (I use spice)
1 small can Libby's pumpkin
1/2 cup of water
2 tbsp flax seed

Mix all ingredients. Bake according to box directions.

As for the regularity, just adding more fruits and veggies to my diet and less fried/fatty foods helped me.

WOW, that muffin recipe looks great! Thanks! :thumbsup2

Hey Momrek! I haven't tried the ground up flax seed but I have been using the flax seed oil for quite a while now. You can mix the oil in any thing that you drink and you will be fine. It is very rich in Omega fatty acids which are crucial to you for not only lowering your cholesterol but also loosing weight. I usually take about a teaspoon a day around early morning or mid-day. I don't want to take it late in the day because of the mindset of adding fat late in the day will turn into fat as well. As far as taste, it really doesn't have a taste to it. But I will have to admit that the muffin recipe does look pretty good.

Have a great day!

I add it to salad, along with sunflower seeds.

I need to get more "regular" !! (If you know what I mean)!!!!

Do you drink lots of water? It will help. :)

I put ground flax seed in just about anything. I put it in Turkey Chili, protein shakes, sprinkle on cereal....it's got a very mild nutty flavor and goes well with just about anything. Flax seed is incredibly good for you....a great addition to any diet!

I add it to salads, as well as rice. I will have to try that muffic recipe!

This might be a silly question, but I have some whole flax seed. Someone told me that it has to be ground up to provide any benefit. Is this true?

I am not sure about the benefit part....BUT in order to DIGEST it properly I understand it should be ground. Hence, I purchased a coffee grinder from WalMart for JUST my flaxseed ($20.00 for the grinder)!!

The ground flaxseed is fabulous for its health benefits and in about the last week or so of using it I am telling you I am LOVING it!!! I sprinkled on yogurt and then on my oatmeal AND the other day I put a slim-fast drink in my blended added a ton of ice and ground flaxseed as well as strawberries and blueberries just to change things about abit....GREAT!!!!

I've had the same problem for a long time. I've recently found a solution, in Super slimming tea by triple leaf. I tried more water, more fiber, etc. Wasn't too thrilled about taking laxitives, but I have a cup of this after dinner and it has been working.
Just another idea.

You can mix it in cereals and oatmeals.

put it in just about anything really. You can also by oils for milk. But the ground is really better. ;) If you can make your own bread add it in there. Same for fresh pasta though that is a bit harder unless you have a pasta machine.

I used to put flaxseed oil in my dd's soy milk until I found Silk Enhanced that already has it. :teeth:

Oh and I found a brand of sunflower seeds that claims and amazing 10grams of fiber. :thumbsup2 Its called Spitz and I usually would get the dill pickle flavored ones. :teeth:

dkostel: That SUPER slimming tea sounds awesome....WHERE can I buy it? I love TEA anyway, I could make a cup in the evening while I am on the DIS BOARDS,and I can sip away..... :thumbsup2

AND Zoesmama: the SPITZ sounds great as well. :thumbsup2

All great ideas :goodvibes

Do you have a Traders Joe's by you? They have tones of great foods that include flax. Corn chips, cereals, breads...all great btw...I've tried it all! :o)

NO, and EVERYONE talks about TJ's..... :sad2: I live in this little tiny town MILES from civilization...(well it feels that way anyway)....

My sis lives over an hour from me and she has TJ's, WILD OATS, and several other whole/natural food stores.

I probably will not find that TEA by Triple Leaf or the SPITZ sunflower seeds that other Posters have suggested for me....

UGH...!

I take flaxseed oil in a capsule every now and then. Can't that help you? I may try ground up flaxseed as well soon.
