Flat Stanley

Stanley has been visiting me for a while and is due back "home" in a week or two. I've peen taking pictures of us everywhere and writing mini-mini essays. am i doing the project correctly? I would hate to break my nieces heart if i did it wrong.

sounds perfect. You get to have him for a long time. When my son did this in 2nd grade Stanley was only allowed to be gone for one week at a time. We sent back photos and a diary type journal with each person so we knew what he did (it was written by Flat Stanley... in his OWN words.

Have fun with this project. There are now tons of books about him. I just received the Christmas one from the Scholastic orders.

I think the kids are supposed to write about Stanley's adventures when he gets back - it's a writing assignment for them - your job is to take Stanley on his adventures and send back lots of pictures and souveniers. The essays you are writing will help them know what to write about. You are doing a great job!

DD's class did this a few years ago and I thought it was really nice when some of the people who mailed Stanley back also sent along little things for the child to share with their class members. I don't remember all the things and DD is in bed right now so I can't ask her, but they were things specific to the area Stanley was sent to. Nothing expensive, since you would need 20 something depending on the class size. Maybe like a post card showing something famous in your area, or a candy that is made in your area, a pencil with your town or state name, etc...
