Hi DVC Members. I have some quick questions. I am on a handheld device that makes surfing difficult. I have some questions for my in-laws if somebody could please provide me with some quick answers.

1 - What is the minimum for DVC? Is it 10 years?

2 - On average, what does DVC cost? I could take the yearly or lump sum figure. My in-laws are looking at the Beach Club and Animal Kingdom.

Thank you for your assistance. They are considering speaking to a DVC agent, but are trying to plan their next trip now. They are retired and considering some timeshare at Disney for yearly family vacations.

On question 1, in what terms are you asking? When you purchase DVC, your "ownership" is valid until the memberships in that resort expire. The date for the membership expiration is between 2042 (all resorts except SSR, AKV, and "extended OKW") and 2057 (AKV and any OKW memberships that were extended).

The cost will vary depending upon the number of points that you have. Do you know how many points your in-laws are looking at? There are 2 pieces of the price to DVC. First is the buy-in cost which is around $104 per point through Disney or between $80-$95 per point via resale. Then there is a yearly maintenance fee which varies per resort. SSR currently has the lowest maintenance fee ($4.21 per point) and at WDW property, BWV currently has the highest ($5.04 per point).

If for example, they are looking for 160 points, then the costs would be $16640 ignoring any incentives plus $754 per year assuming the points are at AKV.

They can buy direct from Disney 100 pts at AKV right now for $9600 plus closing costs of under $200. Yearly Maintenance Fees on that are just under $500 per year. They can pay $500 down and finance the rest through Disney if they wish, I was quoted 10.75% for both 5 and 10 year terms.

If they buy 160 AKV points, they get for free 160 VPO points and 2 free premium annual passes. I didn't check out the higher than 160 point purchase offers...

I was also quoted $101 per point on BCV through Disney. I would buy that re-sale instead of through Disney most likely, but you may lose the financing option going that route. Some re-sellers do finance, however, so that merits some research if they are interested in financing BCV.
