Does anyone know if there are flamingos in at AK. Two years ago my mother sent my DD, at the time 10, a postcard with flamingos. My mother spends her winters outside of Tampa. Well DD has been fascinated with them ever since. She needs to see them for herself before she believes they are reall with that pink color. We are going to WDW in late April and she has decided that the whole trip will be a disaster if she does not get to see them.

I remember seeing some on the Safari, but I am not sure about other places in the park.

Yes, there is a very large flock. After you enter and cross over the birdge in the direction of The Tree of Life go straight until the pathway splits. Then bear to the left (as if going toward Camp Mickey Minnie) and the flamingos will be on your right.

Yes, they can be seen on the Safari ride at AK. Flamingos also at Epcot at the front of World Showcase.

Take your yung'un over to the AK Lodge for a very up close and personal look at flamingos at the overlook out past the swimming pool.

And yes, they're also on a pond on Safari.

Sea World also has beautiful Flamingo's straight in front of you when you first enter the park.

We just stayed at AKL and you can get very close to the flamingos there. They also have certain feeding times if you want to ask about that. My DD also did an activity with the CM's where they show them how flamingos eat and the kids kid to try to scoop things like a flamingo would. Maybe you can schedule a meal or just make a stop at AKL.

On the Safari, your daughter will learn that the flamingos get their pink color from the shrimp that they eat. Something about the brine. When flamingos are born, they are white. That's how you can tell how old they are. The older ones are pinker.

The flamingos on the safari ride are greater flamingos, the ones on Discovery Island are, I believe, lesser flamingos. Believe it or not, the lesser flamingos are actually a more pink color. The greater flamingos have the lightest pink color of any flamingo species.

I wonder how the Discovery Island flamingos feel about being called the "lesser flamingos". Poor little guys!
