I'm just wondering. When are they going to start construction on flamingo crossings? Also, will it be owned by Disney? where on the disney world map would it be located? Thank you.

Flamingo Crossings is the new 450-acre lodging, dining, and shopping area that Disney is developing at the Western Beltway (S.R. 429) exit at Western Way.
The Western Beltway is the new north-south toll road on the west side of the WDW property. Western Way is Disney's road connecting the Western Beltway to a point near Disney's Coronado Springs Resort.

The emphasis will be on value-priced lodging. Although no specific brands have been announced, I would expect brands such as Hampton Inn, Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn, Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Days Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Springhill Suites by Marriott. Groundbreaking should be in late 2008 or in 2009. It's a ten-year project, but I would expect some businesses to open within a year of groundbreaking.

It remains to be seen if Disney identifies the project as a Disney guest area, or if it appears to guests to be an off-site development. In either case, Disney will make money from land that's currently vacant and from guests who might now be staying in Kissimmee or other off-site locations. (If guests see Flamingo Crossings as an on-site Disney area, it could help business at Flamingo Crossings, but it could hurt Disney's own value and moderate resorts.)

This isn't the first time that Disney has done something like this (although it's on a bigger scale this time). The Crossroads of Lake Buena Vista shopping center and Little Lake Bryon (including the Marriott Village) were master-planned by Disney on Disney property, but are not labeled as Disney areas.
