My family and I have always loved Flame Tree, but during our last few visits my husband has tried the onion rings and has gotten severe stomach aches. Even though he has had stomach aches, he still wants to eat them. LOL! Does anyone know what type or kind of onion they use to make the onion rings at Flame Tree? He can eat every kind of onion ring except the ones at Flame Tree without getting sick. Thanks!

I tend to think from what you have said that it is more the oil they are frying the rings in than the onion itself. I have no idea what kind of onion they use but it "tastes" like a regular white onion to me. :confused3 When we fry here - I use either a Vidalia if in season or a white onion. The yellow ones are way to onion-y :goodvibes HTH

It could also be a spice in the breading that he is allergic to. I'd just ask at Flame Tree and tell them why you want to know. Does anyone else in the family get stomach aches?

I dont think it has to do with the type of onion. We felt icky after eating them and I assumed it was because of the oil they used. The onion rings were very greasey IMO. That amount of grease could have been what upset his stomach.

I think it is the grease, too. We did not enjoy these at all, and did not finish them because they were making us a little queasy.

My husband is the one who gets it the worst. I will get a stomach ache for about 1 hour but the feeling goes away. I will ask Flame Tree what kind of oil and onion type they use, like you guys said to do. I hope its just the oil/grease! It always did seem to me that they were a bit on the greasy side. LOL!! Thanks for all of your help!
