I was on another site and heard that Flame Tree in AK is closing for refurbishment on August 9-September 16. Has anyone else heard about this and can confirm?

That would really suck since I planned on going there while we were at AK!

Oh I sure hope they will add indoor seating. I don't like eating outside.

Oh no...

Toy Story Mania closed - DH not thrilled
Small World closed - DH thrilled.:rolleyes1
Flame Tree closed - DH will :sad::sad:

My DS loves the ribs there and I was planning on lunch at Flame Tree on August 10th, of course. I hope this isn't true. it won't ruin the trip but we find the choices at AK very limited.

I see one site mentioning kitchen work to be done, but it would be very odd for a restaurant to close during free dining.

Which site? Does this site say whether or not it would be closed?

I was also wondering.

And to respond to Bork's comment, if they can close TSM in August and Space Mtn (last year) at Easter, although unlikely, with Disney you can never rule out the element of surprise. ;)

im really hoping its not closed .. however, my trip isnt till sept. 21 so it should be back open by then!

PLEASE indoor seating!! I swear they have the most aggressive birds in the world there!

You know...I read this all the time and in all the times we've eaten there, we've never had an issue with the birds. We actually enjoy eating outside. I guess we just get lucky and pick the right table. ;)

All MousePlanet says is that the following paperwork was filed with Orange County last week:

Disney's Animal Kingdom Flame Tree Barbeque – kitchen modifications.

I've never eaten at Flame Tree BBQ, but I really think the aromas that come from the food cooking there really add something special to the whole park experience! Sounds a lil silly, but just walking by that place really gets me excited about the day I'm about to spend in the AK!

Making indoor seating at this place would ruin it for me. The entire area is shaded so it's at least ten degrees cooler than not being in the shade. Pretty soon, people will want all of Disney World air conditioned so they would have to break a sweat. As for the birds, they are native to the area and there's nothing you can do about them. Relax and enjoy them. It's not often you can eat lunch with ducks at your feet, an Ibis to your right and a crane to your left. Humans should NOT feed the birds at all. Fries are not part of their natural diet.

A week or 2 ago there was a report that Flame Tree would be closed when we are planning to be there this August.

Has anyone heard an update, one way or the other?

Thanks.

TGM says the Flame Tree Barbecue will be closed for refurbishment from Aug 9 - Sep 19, 10. It will reopen on Sep 20, 10.
