I've heard about the flag retreat ceremony in MK. Do they also do this in EPCOT. AK and MGM? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.

As far I know MK is the only theme park that does this. It was really beautiful when I saw on Easter Sunday. I didn't get a chance to get a picture of it, camera decided to act up at the WRONG time! :(Hopefully when I go in August I'll get a picture of it. :D

Tink

PS- This was the first and only time I ever recall seeing it, so I really wanted to get a picture of it, plus my grandmother is super patriotic.

I think TammyNC is correct, it is only at MK. It is wonderful though, catch it if you can! I see it once each visit, it brings a tear to my eyes each time. I hear that the white homing pidgins are retied now. I haven't been back since they gave them a break, I will miss them when I go this June! But, I will be there, hand on my heart just the same!

when where and exactly what is this

i assume it is when they are lowering the flag for the day but specific detail would be great PLEASE my two DD's and i would love to see this when we go in Oct.

TIA

Best of my knowledge it is everyday at 5pm. The flagpole is located just past the train depot and right before you begin walking up Main St. It is worth seeing for sure. They get a veteran to participate then present him/her with the flag. It is very moving.

BTW we will be there Oct 13-23 and hope to see it then.

It is at 5pm at MK for sure.
My husband, along with other veterans, participated in it on Veteran's Day several years ago. It was the highlight of the trip. We are hoping to return this year for Veteran's Day.
If ANY veteran is there on Veteran's Day, they are encouraged to participate.
My husband was asked by a cast member on Main Street while we were waiting for a parade. But I'm sure you could "check-in" at the information area at the front of the park.

Truly moving. We were in the parks at xmas 2001. Dont think I have every seen Town Sq come to a full stop like that. EVeryone just stood there watching the ceromony and singing along with the natl anthem.

1) It is at 5:10pm in Magic Kingdom on the square.
2) A small band, guard and *usually* a volunteer Veteran.
3) They lower the flag to music.
4) VERY stirring! (Actually got me tearing!)

PS - They used to release doves during the ceremony, but hawks gathered and used them as an easy lunch. Thus, the bird release was stopped.

Check the times in your time guide when you arrive. It can vary depending on when the stage show is scheduled to begin.
For anyone who is interested I have pictures from when I arranged for my mom to do the flag retreat as a Christmas Gift. Flag Retreat photo album

Really, it was a most moving experience last year. We stood next to a family who's Daddy was just back from "over there" . He openly wept and so did many others. After it was over people went up to him and thanked him and shook his hand.

People of every race and culture stopped respectfully during this time, to watch and pay their respects.

The retired vet that got to carry the flag in the retreat looked so proud to be an American. We took pictures. I sure wish we knew who he was, I would send it to him. The expression on his face is marvelous.

Make the time to see this once during your trip. You won't be sorry.
