Flag lowering at Magic Kingdom

Awesome, thank you! So we just show up? Does it get crowded? Would it be rude it eat ice cream? Maybe ice cream after?
flags retreat is normally 5 pm. I think some times in January and Febuarary it might be earlier. if you get there at lest 5 to 10 minutes before you will have no problem unless it is a leave 10 crowded then I would get there 10 to 15 minutes. and there is not bad view I have watched it about 35 times from all over the area.

would you eat Ice-cream during the national anthem at a baseball game ( or any sporting even) ? I would wait until after to get some but I have seen people doing this but it dose look disrespectful

Both boys are scouts and they have been involved in official retirement and flag burning ceremonies, so they get it. There will be plenty of other opportunities for ice cream :) I think my 12 year old would probably scoff at the idea of enjoying a cone during the anthem!

Side question about your boys. With the scouts and flag burning ceremonies, we have a flag that hung outside our home for years. But it's no longer red, white and blue, more like barn red, cream, blue-gray. We got a new flag, but what to do with the old one? We have it folded and put away in closet, but beyond that????? Could we just contact some local boy scout troop?

Our local veterans groups have mailboxes outside their offices where you can drop off old flags. That would be a good place to look.

Very nice pictures and review Dan. I think we will hold off on the ice cream and give the ceremony our full attention. I misses this one I would get there about 45 -30 minutes early because they do ask kids to say the Pledge of allegiance during the ceremony but you have to get there early for this I saw one parent ask a CM if her kids could do it and they said yes. I think it was about 20 minutes before hand

Just an idea

Yes, you could definitely do that. I imagine they would be able to help you. Our troop and pack both lowered an old worn out flag, raised a new one, folded and ceremoniously burned it(along with several other people had given us to properly dispose of). Also the VFW or Legion in your area should be able to help if the scouts cannot for whatever reason. Oh, and the Girl Scouts also dispose of flags as well.

Bob Dolewhip, thanks to you also. I tried to quote both of you, but I guess I'm not doing something right.

What is this flag retreat ceremony??? I grew up going to Disney and just moved back to the area and have an AP but have never heard of this??

Security and Dapper Dans get there about 4:45 for a 5 pm FR. One of the Dapper Dans picks the kids (normally) for the Pledge.

What is the best way to be chosen to participate? My brother-in-law is a veteran and is really interested in taking part if possible. Can we request in advance, or is the veteran of the day just randomly chosen the day of?

Chosen at random, day of. "Normally" in the earlier part of the day.
