Flabby, Fat & Lazy, Run A Race & Oopsy-Daisy! 2013 Wine & Dine 1/2 Marathon! COMPLETE

Thank you so much, and thank you for reading! Were you there too, or am I thinking of Marathon Weekend in January? :) What's up next for you??

I was there and also finished very very late with no smile for the camera (another story). On a hunch this year I signed up for Wine and Dine when it opened and made it in. I'm still amazed at how fast it sold out!! It's my favorite race, but I was still shocked that I might not have gotten registered!

Can't wait for November! New year, new goal!

Am I the only one who totally read the 'your gonna get wet' in my head with Stacey's voice? I miss Stacey
I'm sure you aren't the only one!! :thumbsup2
I just found your TR and had to comment before reading all the updates because 1.) I was there the same time, 2.) I ran Wine and Dine (Corral D, so we had to be close), 3.) I stayed at POFQ, and 4.) I was in building 6!

I can't wait to see if our paths would have crossed now. Wasn't it a great weekend?
Wow, that's crazy! :faint: I bet we walked right by one another multiple times. Yes, it was a fabulous weekend! Having the race weekend AND Food & Wine at the same time is really a winning combination.
Are you running again this year?
Yes I am! Except this time I'll be there with friends, not with my husband (he's letting me have a girls weekend...what a guy! :lovestruc). I'm signed up for the Jingle Jungle 5K and the half just like last year. Can't wait to see what they come up with for the anniversary medal. Are you running in 2014 too?

Ugh. I get it! Congrats on finishing, sounds like it was a battle for both of us.

YAY!! :yay: That is awesome!! Aren't you excited?! I am!!

I know! :faint: I was expecting it to sell out faster than usual, but not in 24 hours or whatever. I just looked back through my email and I signed up for the 2013 race on April 30. And I'm pretty sure that when I did it was more like 70-80% full. Crazy!!
Can't wait for November! New year, new goal!
Me too!!! :yay: I'm so ready for a second shot at this race. I'm sure you know EXACTLY what I mean.

It's Christmas on Main Street!

After Splash we headed out of Frontierland and made our way to Tomorrowland.

Extreme angle to cut other folks out of the shot. ;)

Buzz had a 25-minute wait (I think), so we headed that way...and once we arrived we both decided that the ride is not worth a 25-minute wait. So we decided to run out the Disney clock on Main Street USA!

Love the (I assume) grandparents with their grandson carrying the Mickey balloon:

This was a first for us...ice cream from the Plaza! What is with this lady's mouth?? :rotfl:

We got our ice cream and headed to a little alley off of Main Street that we'd discovered the previous day. This is now my favorite spot in the Magic Kingdom.

I got birthday cake ice cream and Will got mint chocolate chip. Yum!

And we just hung out. It was bliss. :lovestruc

But all good things must come to an end, and eventually it was time to make our way sloooooowly toward the park exit.

I love these wide shots of Main Street because there's just so much going on!

I have this same picture approximately 1,000 times and will surely take it 1,000 more times on our next trip. Love these toy soliders. :teeth:

Will headed to the bathroom and I wandered over to the Chapeau.

No one's here!

Here I bought myself a pair of Christmas-y green Minnie ears :)

Final Thoughts

Port Orleans French Quarter: As two self-proclaimed deluxe resort snobs, we were very, very surprised at how much we liked French Quarter. It was so relaxing and pleasant, our room was great, and we had short rides to Magic Kingdom and Epcot (obviously can't comment on the commutes to the Studios and Animal Kingdom since we never made it to those parks). After our honeymoon I never thought we'd stray from the Boardwalk, but as time goes on and we try different resorts I keep finding myself saying, "Yep, I'll definitely return to that one." French Quarter is definitely on the "will return to" list.

Food: No new places for us on this trip...we know what we like. :teeth: Via Napoli, 'Ohana and Be Our Guest (lunch) are consistent winners for us, and we'll be back! My new WDW favorite is definitely Rose Regale...I foresee lots of delicious flutes of that tasty bubbly on future trips! :lovestruc

The Parks: We only made it to Magic Kingdom and Epcot, but everything looks great. Splash was the best we'd seen it, probably ever. The decorations were great.

Magic Bands/MyMagic+: Both Will and I agreed that the Magic Bands were nice to have. It was nice to have our Annual Passes, room keys and a way to charge things all in one device. They were comfortable and it was nice to have FP+ booked ahead of time. But that's really all I can say about them...they were NICE. They were convenient...but I wouldn't say they made our trip any better. HOWEVER...on our next trip (December 2013/January 2014) when I was sick, it was VERY nice to be able to sleep in, but still have FP+ set up for later in the day. So overall I'm definitely a fan after using them again over the holidays and in February.

Food & Wine Festival: Lesson learned: AVOID Food & Wine Festival on weekend nights! Yikes! World Showcase on Saturday night vs. World Showcase on Sunday afternoon was like night and day...literally and figuratively. :p My biggest regret of this trip is that we didn't have more Food & Wine time. If I could do things differently I would have made our Sunday dinner reservation later and skipped the Magic Kingdom the last morning of our trip in favor of more Food & Wine. Next time!

Running Thoughts: Did I mention that my foot was injured during this trip? No? Because it was. :crazy2: Obviously that overshadowed a lot of the race experiences (and a lot of the weekend as a whole). I think it was probably pretty stupid of me to run with the injury, but really, with having paid the entry fee (and been well past the race deferral deadline), booked the hotel and flights, taken the time off at work, etc....there's no way I would have been able to skip out and not lose a ton of money. Plus, I'm stubborn and a little stupid...so there's that.

So while it was stupid, I'm glad I did it. The 5K was a blast, and I had a great time running it with Will. Hopefully we'll do more races at Disney together. :teeth: Wine & Dine was awesome - best half marathon course at WDW, in my opinion, and the first half marathon I've done there that I KNOW for sure I want to do again. And lucky me...I'll be running it again this year! :yay: (Hopefully sans injury.)

Future Running: After getting home from WDW the foot was pretty bad and I hobbled for a few more days, all the while telling myself that if it didn't get better by the next week I'd see a doctor. Slowly but surely it began to improve, and 2 weeks out from race day it was finally completely better. :) I'd promised myself (and Will) that I was going to take the rest of November off from running to make sure I fully kicked this thing, and I stuck to that. Since I've started running in 2008 that was the longest stretch I'd had with no running...and it was weird going from running 4 days per week to zero days per week, but I was mostly okay with it. I laced up my running shoes again on December 2 and have been pain-free so far...thumbs up for healing! :thumbsup2 Which brings us to...

Future Disney Running! With Wine & Dine complete there's just one long race I haven't done at WDW - the Tower of Terror 10-miler. I really wanted to do that race this year, but it's the same weekend as a work trip I've already committed to. I like my job and I like being able to use the money from said job to pay for things (i.e. Disney trips) so ToT is out for this year. Thank goodness it finally sold out, because I was really tempted to sign up, even if it wouldn't have been the best idea in the world. That's okay though, because as I mentioned above, I'm heading back to WDW in November for Jingle Jungle/Wine & Dine part 2! :yay:

Beyond that, I've been planning on heading back to WDW for Marathon Weekend in 2015. It's the 10th anniversary of the Goofy Challenge, so that was originally my goal...but then runDisney had to up the stakes and announce the Dopey Challenge. :headache: And a Pluto 5K medallion for the 5K. :headache::headache: And a Minnie Mouse medal for the 10K. :headache::headache::headache: Oh runDisney...you got me again.

Good-bye, money! Hello Dopey 2015! :teeth:

Thanks for reading!

Another great TR! I will definitely keep an eye open for your Dopey report down the road! Best of luck in your training! :cool1:

I love reading your trip reports. They are always so great and detailed and fun to read. Your pictures at MK are fantastic. I love them all. The shot of you desperately trying to protect your camera as you head down Splash Mountain is a riot. In all the times we've gone to Disney, I have yet to ride this ride. The lines were either too long or it was closed for refurb. :confused3

I'm looking forward to following along with your pre-TR and your training for the Dopey!!

Thanks! :goodvibes Dopey is STILL so far away...sadness! I have a training report going right now over in the pre-trip report section but I have a feeling that one won't REALLY pick up until Dopey training starts in the fall. Thanks for reading!! :)

Thanks Gisele! :goodvibes I felt like I got into a decent picture-taking groove on that last morning int he Magic Kingdom, hopefully it'll happen again over our next couple of trips!

You've gotta ride Splash! It's such a classic. And when it's in great shape (as it was when we rode it) it's really a wonderful attraction.
I'm looking forward to following along with your pre-TR and your training for the Dopey!!
Thanks! Please be sure to keep me updated on your and Chris' Goofy prep! :goodvibes Almost time to register, better start getting the credit card warmed up. :faint:
