FLA Kids Back to School!

Does anyone know when school starts again for elementary school children in Florida???

Schools vary all over Florida with their starting dates, but my daughter goes back Aug. 7th.

In Palm Beach County down south, we go back on August 16th... my oldest dd's birthday

Wow! That's early! My vacation starts 8/5 so someone said that maybe the crowds would be less because Florida kids start early...but looks like...Not That Early!!!

When I booked my WDW trip, the CM & I were chatting & I THINK she said her daughter goes back 8/2/06.

Aug 14th here. Kids got out May 26th. Seasonal blackout is until Aug. 17th, so that is a good indicator of when crowds may lessen.

Their is something in the works now about FL schools not being able to start back more than 2 weeks before labor day, not sure if it has passed or when this starts.

Same here, we're in P.B. County. I had to double check yesterday to book his airline tickets to Nashville.

August 7th, way too early to me. I'd prefer year-round honestly. That way I could vacation during "off" times instead of high season now!

Hillsborough County (Tampa area) is 3 August. I have been told that Pinellas County (St. Pete/Clearwater) is the same.

Lee County (Ft. Myers) should be about the same time. My kids went there last year, and they started the first full week of August.

DSs last day of school is today! He does need to go back tomorrow for Recognition Day/8th grade Graduation then he'll be dismissed.
He goes back Aug 30th

We'll be in WDW Aug 12-26

Ours start back August 2nd.

We were just discussing this yesterday. Today is the first official day of summer. Tomorrow, we are officially halfway through the kids' summer vacation.


I love it though because we get out so early. And we can take advantage of Disney in September. Everyone says September is so slow because parents are afraid to take the kids out of school since they just started - not us. We've been in for six weeks - not a problem to me at all.

My friend is a teacher near Ft. Lauderdale, she goes back early August (although she is teaching summer school, so really she never left! )

I'm looking to move to Seminole county and they start school on July 31! My poor kids... they're going to have a really short summer as school ended on June 8 here in Akron.

Orange county is also August 7th this year.

Starting in 2007 though, schools have to wait until August 20th to start classes.

The back to school schedule for the surrounding counties here in Central Florida are:

Brevard Aug 9
Lake Aug 10
Orange Aug 7
Osceola Aug 7
Polk Aug 7
Seminole July 31
Volusia Aug 7

This will be the last year that Seminole or any other county will be able to start the school year so early. Beginning in 2007, 2 weeks before Labor Day will be the earliest starting date allowed statewide.

Our start date will still be legal, but I imagine all the earlier ones will move to our date which is always 2 weeks before labor day. Some will remain later in August.
I like starting mid August too, CAN take those Sept/Oct. long weekend trips and not worry about missing a day.
