Leaving from Sarasota in May. Have decided to take the scenic route and stay off of I-75 and I-4. Plan to head north on St Rd 27 to 192 and then to the Dolphin. Is 192 and easy access to the Dolphin from 27 or is it a slow go? Also is this a good plan for getting to the Dophin or should I hop on I-4 for a short distance and take exit 62?

There is usually quite a bit of traffic on 192 around WDW. You may be better off going on I-4.

We always go that way to WDW. We come down I-75 to the Florida Turnpike, then get off of the turnpike at Clermont on 27, then follow 27 to 192.

We have never had bad traffic problems, and find it an easy way to get there.

West 192 looks a lot better than it used to since all the construction is finished.

It is also fun to see the Animal Kingdom Lodge on the left as your driving down 192, and also look as your driving to see if you can tell where Disney property actually starts. There are lots and lots of businesses, then NOTHING. It's kindof neat.

Carol,

Thanks. I feel better about 192 now. Did not know you could see any of the resorts off a main highway. When you get on Disney property is it pretty well marked on which way to go here or there. Like "This way to the Dolphin"?:teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I live in the area of I-4 and 192. Both roads are being worked on. 192 is further down that what you will need to go but at times the road is very congested.

Well I guess if you live there you ought to know. I guess I'll try to get a road report a couple of days before I head out. Whatever way I chose I'll post the experience!

I am sure it depends on what time of year you are coming. I just got back from trying to go on 192. The traffic was backed up in both directions for miles with cars.

Yes,

Once you get on World Drive, just follow the signs to "Epcot Resort Area", and then follow the signs to the Dolphin.

Depending on what direction you are coming from, you could jump onto either Black Lake Road (take it to the end and turn lft onto Sherbeth) or Sherbeth road, which will take you right onto Disney property near the Animal Kingdom. When 192 is backed up, it is a huge time saver. Maybe someone else will know if you are coming from the right direction to do that. Once you are on property, just watch the signs to easily find your destination.

Thanks. I look at my Orlando area map. If I turn off of 27 on 192 I will be heading east towards the World.

I just consulted my husband, and he said you will be coming the right way. Watch for the shopping area on East Orange Lake Blvd. which means you are near Black Lake Road. That is a traffic light, and Black Lake is the traffic light right after that, right before the Chik Fil A. You will turn left onto Black Lake and take it to the end, which is Sherbeth. Turn left onto Sherbeth (be careful as visibility is lousy) and follow it right onto Disney property. You will pass the Animal Kingdom on your right, and soon you will come to the Disney signs that will direct you where you need to go.

from us 27 it will be the 5th traffic light for blacklake road, turn left there. then left on sherbeth road at the light turn right and follow the signs.

Thanks, You all have been most helpful. It's going to be an excellent adventure. Haven't been to the World in years and my friend has never been! Doing the double digit dance. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce:

When 192 is backed up, it is a huge time saver.

It was a time saver.......think about it!!

Although Black Lake Road can now back up from trying to turn left onto Sherberth as more and more people find out about this back door into Disney. It still can be a time saver but probably not for long.

It's still pretty secret...not as many people are internet savvy as you would think.
But eventually it probably will become as secret as the "secret porthole rooms" on Disney Cruise Line, which must now be booked a year in advance!

I just did this route last week--I don't know what the exact mileage is, but going on I-4 seemed shorter and faster, even at 3PM on a Friday (of spring break weekend). That said, coming from the north, the Hwy. 27 is a beautiful one. Lots of orange groves and such....feels like you are on the "road less travelled". That is, until you get to 192, LOL....

to get to the Dolphin, just follow the signs to the "Epcot Resorts Area". That should take you right to the Dolphin. Just follow the signs....::yes::

All those developments on us27 south of route 50 to 192 used to be all orange groves when we first started to come down in 1972. On 192 just south of I-4 there was only one hotel that had a helecopter pad. I remember one man across the street from that hotel selling kites from his car. That was the only thing there.

How things have changed.
