So I have my prescription motion sickness patch all ready....

For your Forbidden Journey vets... at what points during the ride are the worst for motion sickness?

What do I need to look for so I can either brace myself or prepare to close my eyes?

I am determined to try this ride at least once even though I've heard it is a motion sickness victim's worst nightmare.. can you guys give me the heads up???

I felt unwell throughout the whole ride from the start, the moment we "flew" up the chimney. It really is a difficult ride to handle for anyone prone to motion sickness, and I imagine I will be sticking to the walking tour of the castle in future (so glad to have that option!).

My aunt who has motion sickness suffered the entire ride-so I don't have any tips to get around it.

We did ride FJ last so that it didn't ruin the entire day...

My husband who never ever, ever had motion sickness in his life and who loves all coasters, spinning, dropping type rides (he even loves the orange side of Mission Space:rotfl:) got deathly ill at the very beginning FJ where you use Hermione's floo powder to go through the chimneys. Between the chimneys and the smell, he was ill the rest of the ride last Oct. I had given him a Meclizine both the night before and again prior to leaving WDW that morning. He laughed, reminding me had never been sick on an amusement ride before in his entire 50+ years, but took it to pacify me after I told him FJ was different from any ride he'd ever been on before. After riding he looked positively green and then felt off the rest of the day. Now granted he was on medication for a sinus infection at that time and still blames his unusual motion sickness on that. However, we went back over the next day and he did not take his sinus medicine. He again got sicker than a dog. On the other hand surprisingly it doesn't both me at all and I can ride it over and over.

We rode it again last week when we were down there (April 30th-May 8th). We both again took Meclizine the night before and the morning of and neither of us had any trouble. Although my husband would still just ride it one time, whereas me and a friend rode it several times in a row utilizing the single rider line. It didn't make my husband sick and he went straight and rode Spiderman and Hulk with no problem and then a few hours later did both the Mummy and Simpsons with no trouble. But he says FJ still leaves him not necessarily particularly sick, but just feeling a little off.:confused3 Considering the tea cups, 3D movies, Body Wars, Star Tours, none of the coasters, Mission Space, Spider Man, nor the Simpsons even phases him, I'm not sure what his problem with FJ is, but it seems to knock him for a loop, starting at the beginning where you go through the chimneys. For me the only place I feel a little odd is right after Hagrid asks if you've seen a dragon and you sort of dip down. It doesn't make me ill at all, just gives me a sinking sensation in my stomach when the bench dips downward then back up.

For most people, the worst part of this ride are the simulated parts--those where you are in front of a projection screen and the ride vehicle is nearly stationary. There are three segments in FJ like this: one at the start, one in the middle, and one at the end. My recommendation would be to close your eyes for these portions if you start to feel queasy.

The other parts of the ride, where the ride vehicle is in motion and going through classic dark-ride sets and effects, are usually not a problem. YMMV. The vehicle does sweep you around a bit (without any actual spinning as on Cat in the the Hat or Acceletron), but IMO is very smooth and fluid--not bumpy at all.

simulator bits are rough for motion sickness. Also the inner seats have less moving about/less intense feel to them so that might help.

I had to keep my eyes closed for most of the first ride. By the third or fourth ride I was able to open my eyes. I found riding it first thing or at the end was good since the weather was less brutal.

good luck..hope you can ride it

I can ride the entire ride np without the simulators. The first time I close my eyes is at the Quidditch match. Up to that point I am not too queasy. If I close my eyes for that segment I can get through the ride without being sick at the end.

Thanks so much for all your help.. so can you tell when the "screens" come out??

Here's a tip that nobody has covered so far: DO NOT HAVE A BUTTERBEER BEFORE RIDING. As yummy as they are, butterbeer + FJ = BARF (or a rather nauseated feeling). Wait until after you ride.

The "Whomp" from when you get attacked by the whomping willow and spun into the quidditch pitch is the part that messes me up the most. I can comfortably ride the ride 2x in a row (single riders) and then need a break.

Excellent point. DW found out the hard way that pumpkin juice has the same effect.

Heading out this evening.. will give a full report of the ride when we get back.. wish me luck!!!

Hope you have a great time Coach81!

I have a feeling you will enjoy the experience.

The worst parts are probably the opening scene when you fly out of the observatory down towards the Hogwarts grounds, and the Quidditch match, which I found disorienting at times, despite not even suffering with motion sickness myseld, due to the complete 180 degree (seems 360) screens.

I lasted 10 seconds.. then eyes closed and I was in straight survival mode.. worse ride for motion sickness ever IMHO... However wife and kids LOVED IT....

Oh well... if these type rides are the future of theme parks, I guess I'll be stuck on the sidelines...
