FJ motion sickness

Stopped at AAA for some maps today and the worker was happy to tell us all about FJ. I'm not usually motion-sick but I hated Star Tours...many years ago. I've never ridden Mission Space but I love Soarin.

I'm conflicted about FJ. I REALLY want to try it but I'd hate to feel sick all day.

From reading this thread is the secret to always watch Harry??? and if I feel nauseous, to close my eyes?

My kids, 8 & 11 are ride chickens. Big Thunder is okay, Space Mtn was a bit much..they like the tea cups. I'm not sure if I should take them on. Augh, the decisions..;)

Its ok Homie, Did your wife use any motion sickness medicine? I asked because I get motion sickness (a little) but I really want to try FJ, I plan to use some meds.

No meds. After the first ride, she learned to just keep her head against the backrest and only look in the direction the vehicle faced.

are you lying down during this ride or sitting up, like in a ride car. I saw some say its a cross between soarin and dinosaur? like flying on a broom, but are you free in the air or constrained to a seat/ car (dinosaur/soarin)

DH can not do anything more intense than soarin or thunder mtn

Thanks

You are sitting in a seat with an over the shoulder restraint but your legs are dangling just like on Soarin. There are four seats in a row.

You are sitting and your feet are dangling. However, it is attached to the end of a robotic arm, so you are constantly turning, moving, lying on your back a few times and even at one point feel as though your head is lower than the rest of your body- tilting way down on your back.

After reading all these posts, I think I will not be riding FJ. The problem is my DS and I will be on our own the first two days at IOA. Can I walk with him to the ride loading area and then use a chicken door? Does the chicken door empty to the same area as the ride exit?

He wants this to be his first ride, first day. I don't want to be a dizzy mess for the rest of the day. Especially of it's just the two of us. I also have a bad neck and have to avoid most coasters. I guess FJ just isn't in the cards for me.

You should be able to do this with no problems. The load and unload areas are next to each other, so they should direct you towards the exit down a set of stairs into the gift shop. You could just wait by the stairs I suppose.

One minor caveat I don't see mentioned on here though. There is a separate unload area for handicap access. I got offloaded here the very first time I rode, and the TM escorted me to the same exit via an elevator.

Also, I don't think neck issues are much of a problem on FJ like on coasters. You are swing around a bit and can certainly get dizzy, but there are no serious g-forces.

I'm usually fine on simulator sides, except Mission Space for some reason. I rode FJ on Monday morning and experienced definite motion sickness. I rode Spiderman later that day and was fine. Definitely worse than Spiderman in my opinion. I think it was the fact that your body position is changing as well as the room and screens are changing that did it. I was wishing it was over part way through and won't ride it again.
