Do most people set up their campsite, or just pull in and start at the parks, what I'm trying to ask is, does most people pull out their awning, put up their hanging lights, put picnic table stuff out, put some yard things around , set their chairs out etc..or are most people just wanting to get out and go ...go ...go? Just wondering , trying to figure out if I should take my stuff or just leave it at home for the space.

Bring your "stuff" with you. Most of the sites are set up the same as you would find anywhere else. During the winter some of the snowbirds have some pretty elaborately decorated sites.

Oh, yeah, we can explode a site mighty fast! Awning, slide out, bikes, chairs, clothes line, trikes and toy cars, lots of lights and decorations--we had all that in that motorhome?!? :rotfl:

if it isn't raining cats and dogs (which it was when we arrived for one trip) we set up and do all the "goodies" but with a small pop up, and me, DH and DS who is now 10 and loves to set up camp...we can have it looking like home away from home in far less than a half hour. beds made, flags up, tackey lights up an all.

We set up camp upon arrival. This has gone through an evolution over the years. At first, when the kids were small, as soon as we hit FW DW, DS and DD were gone - headed over to the meadows - leaving me and the dog to set up. That was ok, but as the kids got older I started giving everybody a responsibility - really streamlined set up. Now it is just DW and me, so I have a feeling set up will be left to me and the dog again. :rolleyes2

One thing that I have found out is that we don't feel the need to rush anywhere when we stay at FW. We stayed a week last October and only went to the parks 3 of the 7 days we were there. I think its just the other way around when you stay at one of the other resorts, you feel you have to tackle it all.

Usually we will pull in, set up and not try to go to any parks until the next day.

What???? You mean everyone doesn't pull in, set up, and crack open a beer? :teeth: ;)

DH and I have been camping for over 20 years. Cracking open the beer upon arrival is the 1st thing we do!

Oh good! I'm not alone! ;)

That just made me think of a trip to Williamsburg we took a few years ago. It was off season, and we were the only campers in our section of the campground for the first few nights. Then one evening, this big fifth wheel pulls up next to our site. DH and I looked at each other like "Well there goes our peace and quiet."

Next a woman jumps out of the truck to start directing the husband on backing up, and we hear that distinct sound -- "Fwip" -- the sound of a can of beer being open. DH says "Well maybe they won't be so bad afterall!" He-he. They were a great family. We sat by the campfire with them a couple of nights. :)

(I've got to stop with the beer remarks on the DIS. Everyone is gonna think I'm a lush. LOL.)

No beer here, but you can be pretty suprised how fast we can get that grill going, last time we camped we didn't even have the camper level, but the grill was heating up ! :p

Since we are driving down from MA leaving Thursday evening and arriving before noon on Saturday, we are planning on just getting set-up, exploring a little, maybe hit downtown disney and then dinner at Chef Mickey's. We aren't even planning on starting the park adventure until Sunday. :sunny:

You know, over the years we have spent less and less time at the parks. This spring when we go, we plan on spending the first 3 days at FW before even considering hitting a park. We like spending a day at DTD, a day exploring other resorts, and a couple of nights at PI, too.

:moped:

MMMMMMM beeeeer

My usual plan is to get us there, back into the space, shut off my truck and crack a beer ! the rest is up to the wife and kids. :cool1:

forgot to add that this is the beer I bought at the Publix for a fraction of what Disney charges.

When we went we left @ 2am. wednes. and drove to S.C. by 6pm.. We were at FW cracking that malty beverage by noonish

We never go to the parks the first day. We always set up, hang around the campground and just enjoy the FW atmosphere. There is nothing quite like it.

Exactly! The last thing I want to do after a 22 hour drive is to hit the parks.

Our routine is to set up the RV (hook up to shore power, sewer, unload the electric car, bikes, put out the awning, lights, rug, chairs, etc.) then drive around the campground to get in the mood. Later we have dinner at Trail's End and go to the campfire show and movie and maybe end the night at the marina watching the fireworks.

Sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do.

We are driving it in two days. I'm hoping we can get an early enough start on the second day so that we aren't pulling in and setting up so late. :guilty:

In our family, the first thing we do is put up the jalepeno lights! I know it sounds crazy, but let's just say it was a goofy night and a few cocktails later we now have to have these lights or it's just not camping!

Crackin' open that beer is done even before we back into the site! DH usually climbs out of the driver's seat as soon as we pull into the check in post and lets me get the paperwork done! :earboy2:

Once in the site, we all pitch in to get everything set up - then it's off to Trails End for a meal!
